The influential midfielder played a key role in helping Senegal book their place at the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals which will be hosted by Russia.

Nicknamed the Lions of Teranga, Senegal defeated South Africa 2-0 in a Group D match at the Peter Makaba Stadium in Polokwane last week Friday and they qualified as group winners.

Gueye played the entire match in the middle of the park – protecting the Senegal defence along side West Ham United defender-cum-midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate.

Aliou Cisse decided to rest some of Senegal’s key players ahead of their final Group D match which was against South Africa at the Stade Leopold Sedar Senghor in Dakar on Tuesday.

However, Gueye and Senegal captain Kouyate kept their place in the starting line-up as the Lions of Teranga secured a 2-1 win over Bafana Bafana in a dead rubber.

Gueye, 28, took to social media to express his joy after Senegal qualified for the World Cup for the first time in 16 years:

The midfield enforcer will now focus on Everton‘s upcoming English Premier League (EPL) match against Crystal Palace which will be played in London on Sunday.

Before the FIFA international break, Gueye helped the Toffees end their four-match winless run in the EPL with a 3-2 win over Watford at home.

A victory for Everton over Palace, will see the Toffees move further away from the relegation zone.

Ghana attacker Andre Ayew has urged his West Ham United teammates to turn their attention to the challenge of Crystal Palace this weekend.

Ayew was the star turn in the Hammers’ midweek League Cup win over London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, scoring a brace of goals in the second half.

West Ham came from two goals down to defeat Spurs 3-2 at Wembley on Wednesday evening and advance into the next round of the League Cup.

Ayew, who was named man of the match for his strikes in the 55th and 60th minutes, wants to see United perform with similar strength in the Premier League this weekend.

“I want to congratulate the whole team, it’s a massive win,” Ayew said.

“We have a massive game on Saturday. We have to enjoy this, but prepare for Saturday.

“We knew if we scored early in the second half we’d have a chance. We need to relax and work hard because Saturday is a big one.”

West Ham are just two places above the relegation zone heading into the match against the Eagles, having been beaten 3-0 at home by Brighton & Hove Albion in their last Premier League outing.

According to media reports in England, Egypt and Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny has turned down a move to Leicester City.

The Pharaohs midfielder has attracted interest from the Foxes and an agreement has been reached by both clubs.

However, despite a £10 million price tag that has been agreed upon, the 25-year-old player has turned down the offer opting to stay in London.

The Sun website reports that Elneny is happy in London although he is not getting enough game time, but he insists he will fight for a starting spot under manager Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal initially signed Elneny from Basel for £5m in January 2016, with the right-footed midfielder making 40 appearances across all competitions for the Gunners.

However, the former Arab Contractors player is enjoying a delightful pre-season with Arsenal as they beat Bayern Munich at the International Champions Cup in Shanghai.

It is repoted that the FA Cup champions are willing to part with Elneny for the right price as they have Francis Coquelin, Aaron Ramsey, Granit Xhaka and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who can play in his position.

On the other hand, Leicester could come back in January for Elneny who has three years left on his current deal.
