Dijon’s Senegalese defender Papy Djilobodji has praised Olympique Lyon’s attackers, including former Chelsea teammate and Burkina Faso star Bertrand Traore.

Djilobodji, who is on loan from Sunderland, believes Lyon pose a huge attacking threat and isn’t surprised the success Traore has enjoyed since his permanent move to the former Ligue 1 champions.

He said: “Everyone can score. What is impressive is the variety of their profiles. There is Mariano Diaz, you feel that as soon as he has the ball he will not let go, he really wants to score.

“(Memphis) Depay is a high class player, he can make exceptional gestures, unexpected. (Nabil) Fekir, it’s impossible to take a ball from him.

“And Bertrand (Traore), whom I knew in Chelsea, technically he is very, very good: with his feints, he is very hard to stop.”

Djilobodji helped Dijon record a 3-1 home win over Troyes in Ligue 1 this past weekend.

Bertrand Traore eager to add to Bafana Bafana’s woes – 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers – Africa

Saturday Oct 07, 2017. 09:00

Bertrand Traore is hopeful that Burkina Faso can add to South Africa’s recent woes when the two teams lock horns at the FNB Stadium in Soweto on Saturday.

The Stallions currently lead the way in Group D, with six points from four 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and have subsequently set their sights on a first ever appearance at a world showpiece.

Traore, 22, revealed that he was surprised by Bafana Bafana’s failure to pick up a single point from back-to-back games against Cape Verde, but is delighted that the results have played to his country’s favour.

The reverse fixture between South Africa and Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou last year ended in a 1-1 stalemate.

“The South African team that played against us was a strong team,” Traore is quoted as saying.

“They had the most possession and they dominated the game. It was quite difficult for us. I was surprised to see them dropping points against Cape Verde. It’s strange. I don’t know what happened.

“But that’s good for us, because we also didn’t take as many points as we should have from Senegal. We are still in the running to qualify for the World Cup. We have to focus on the job at hand. I hope they play like they did against Cape Verde. That would be good for us,” he concluded.

Moreover, the Lyon ace highlighted his desire to reach next year’s World Cup in Russia, having narrowly missed out on ending their hiatus three years ago.

“It’s a dream for all of us to go to the World Cup,” Traore added. “Burkina Faso have never played in a World Cup. We were nearly there in 2014. We failed in the last game. We have a chance to make amends for that so we have to take it,” he concluded.

Burkina Faso star Bertrand Traore has explained that he is not a replacement for Alexandre Lacazette at Olympique Lyon.

Following Lacazette’s big-money move to Arsenal earlier this month, Traore is being viewed as the natural heir to the French striker’s crown at the Ligue 1 club and has even been given his old number 10 jersey.

However, the Stallions attacker, who joined Lyon from Chelsea, insists that he is a completely different player and should not be viewed as a like-for-like replacement.

“I am ready to give everything when I am on the ground,” Traore said over the weekend.

“I do not replace Alex Lacazette. He’s not the same profile. We know what he did for OL.

“He is a great striker and I envy him a lot. I am fortunate today to have the number 10. It is a pleasure and an honor.

“I hope I meet expectations. I will fight, try to give everything to bring to the team.”
