Mahrez given blessing to leave Algeria and complete transfer – 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers – Africa

Graeme Jackson

Thursday Aug 31, 2017. 15:00

Algeria have given Riyad Mahrez permission to leave the national team training camp and fly back to Europe to complete a transfer away from Leicester City.

The Fennec Foxes winger has expressed a desire to leave the King Power Stadium, and with the transfer window set to close tonight he has been given the blessing of the national team to complete a move to an unnamed club.

Algeria are busy preparing for back-to-back 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Zambia.

A statement on the Algerian Football Federation website read: “Leicester City’s Algerian international Riyad Mahrez, who is currently with the national team in Sidi Moussa to prepare for the double confrontation against Zambia for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, was authorised by the national coach Lucas Alcaraz and the Algerian Football Federation to make an express trip to Europe to formalise on Thursday his transfer to his new club.

“The national team will fly without him on Thursday morning to Lusaka to face Zambia on Saturday.”

The identity of Mahrez’s suitors is unknown, though he has been linked with Roma, Barcelona, Arsenal and Manchester United during the European summer.

Transfer window should close long before internationals – Wilmots – 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers – Africa

Bertin Basson

Wednesday Aug 30, 2017. 21:00

Marc Wilmots, the coach of the Ivory Coast national team, says the transfer window should close well before any international matches to ensure that there are no selection issues.

The Belgian tactician is busy preparing his Elephants side for crucial back-to-back 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Gabon on September 2 and 5.

Yet he is still without a key player in the shape of defender Simon Deli, who is busy trying to complete a pending transfer from Czech club Slavia Prague.

“I am in constant contact with the players who have to stay in their club, since Simon Deli has not received permission from Slavia Prague to join us,” Wilmots is quoted by Linfodrome.

“So this is a situation that is still pending. I find it very unfortunate that the transfers continue until 31 August.

“At the mental level of the players, these are contracts for their life from time to time. And it will be Thursday at midnight that everything will be decided. We have a match two days later.

“To put all this in place, I preferred that everything be settled before we start the national teams.

“I speak on behalf of all managers, not just for me, because the problem is everywhere. We have to think about this problem at FIFA level.”

Leicester players won’t get involved in Mahrez transfer – 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers – Africa

Leicester players won’t get involved in Mahrez transfer

Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez

Danny Simpson has explained that Leicester City’s players will not get involved in any potential transfers for Algerian Riyad Mahrez and striker Jamie Vardy.

The duo have been strongly linked with transfers away from the King Power Stadium, with Mahrez drawing particular interest from Serie A giants Roma.

Simpson says the other players don’t get involved in transfer business, leaving it up to the individuals and clubs in question to work out the issues themselves.

“When you’ve got good players in your team they’re going to get linked to teams in every window,” Simpson told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show.

“It’s probably more frustrating for the fans and the manager. For the lads it is what it is and we want people to stay at Leicester.

“But at the same time you can’t really get involved if a so called big team wants to take them [Mahrez and Vardy].

“I want them to stay because they’re great players. But at the same time you don’t really get involved because it’s their decision and the club’s decision.”

Raphael Dwamena’s Brighton transfer falls through – 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers – Africa

Graeme Jackson

Sunday Aug 27, 2017. 10:00

Brighton & Hove Albion’s move for Ghanaian striker Raphael Dwamena has fallen through after the player failed a medical.

According to The Sun, Brighton have pulled out of signing the Black Stars attacker after a heart problem was discovered during his medical assessment.

The Seagulls were due to pay FC Zurich £10million for the 21-year-old, but the deal has now been scrapped.

It is the second time Brighton have seen a big-money transfer collapse because of a failed medical in this window.

A move for Gent midfielder Renato Neto was scuppered at the 11th hour when the Brazilian was found to have a knee problem.

Dwamena will remain with Zurich and will look to help the Swiss club re-establish themselves in the top flight.

Napoli’s Algerian left-back Faouzi Ghoulam could well become a transfer target for French Ligue 1 side Monaco.

The principality club wants to have an offer in place which will be activated if defender Fabinho moves to Paris Saint-Germain.

Fabinho and teammate Kylian Mbappé have been linked with a move to PSG for a total fee in excess of €200m, with the Parisian side already spending €222m for Neymar.

According to Rai Sport, Monaco will try to sign the Fennec Foxes defender as a replacement for Fabinho, even though he plays on the opposite flank.

They add that the Partenopei are pushing to renew Ghoulam’s contract, and held a meeting on Monday.

A new deal has yet to be agreed, with Ghoulam set to become a free agent at the end of the current season.

Aubameyang suitors have two weeks to complete a transfer

Borussia Dortmund star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Thursday Jul 13, 2017. 13:00

Suitors of Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have two weeks to try and sign the Gabonese attacker.

The German club’s chiefs have confirmed that they are open to selling the Panthers attacker – for a steep price – but want the transfer completed before their team begins preseason under new coach Peter Bosz in two weeks.

Chelsea and AC Milan are the European clubs said to be most interested in signing Aubameyang, while the player has a big-money offer from Chinese side Tianjin Quanjian on the table.

Yet Sky Deutschland reports that Dortmund have yet to receive a concrete offer from a fellow European club and want clubs to either step up and submit or a bid, or for the speculation around their prize asset to end.

BVB director Michael Zorc revealed: “For now, we assume that Aubameyang remains. We agreed with him that we will remain open to discussions, but only up to a certain amount of time will we wait.”

South African side Kaizer Chiefs have responded to media speculations linking the club with players from other teams.

Amakhosi recently signed Chicken Inn defender Teenage Hadebe, former Maritzburg United wing-back Philani Zulu and former Cape Town City winger Bhongolethu Jayiya.

The Soweto giants have been busy preparing for the 2017 Bokone Bophirima Maize Cup and 2017/18 Premier Soccer League (PSL) campaign.

Bobby Motaung, the Chiefs football manager, says that they will follow the correct procedure before they make more signings.

“We have seen names bandied around in the media,” Motaung told the club’s official website.

“We would like to reiterate that if there are players that we are interested in to sign we will follow the correct procedure.

“We do not want to destabilise other clubs and we also don’t want to cause confusion to our supporters,” he continued.

“Any player movement will be announced via our official media platforms.”

Chiefs are scheduled to face Botswana giants Township Rollers in the Maize Cup semi-finals, and the winner will face Free State Stars or Platinum Stars in the final.

All matches will take place at the James Motlatsi Stadium in Orkney, South Africa on Saturday, 15 July 2017.
