Ghana international Thomas Partey has continued his stunning run of form for club side Atletico Madrid, with the 24-year-old proving his versatility in a 5-0 walloping of Levante this past weekend.

Atleti remain unbeaten in this season’s Spanish La Liga, with Partey one of their outstanding players thus far.

The midfielder-come-fullback, held his own at right-back in the club’s 2-0 win over Roma in the UEFA Champions League before starring in the same position in league success on Saturday.

Having added goals to his game in a more advanced role in midfield, Partey has since proven his worth at fullback and surely if needed – he will play as a striker too!

The run of form comes as just reward for Partey who struggled for game time in the Spanish capital leading up to the current campaign.

In total, the former Mallorca and Almeria man has played 18 games this season across all competitions, scoring four goals.

Atletico return to action this evening in the Copa del Rey with a clash against Elche.

Eyes will be firmly set on Ghana international midfielder Thomas Partey as Atletico Madrid aim to finally ignite their UEFA Champions League campaign.

The Spanish giants are yet to register a win after four rounds of fixtures, with three draws and a defeat leaving their hopes of progression hanging by a thread.

Successive stalemates against Azerbaijan side Qarabag came as a huge blow to Atletico’s chances, but Diego Simeone’s troops can still haul in both Chelsea and Group C leaders Roma.

Partey, who has been in good form for both club and country this season, will be eager to continue his rise having netted his first Champions League goal last time out,

The 24-year-old has scored four goals in 16 appearances across all competitions this season.

Ghana head coach Kwesi Appiah would’ve been content with the performance of his troops in their 1-1 draw against Egypt in Kumasi this past weekend, considering the Black Stars were without several key members.

Thomas Partey – suspended for the clash – has been in outstanding form this season for both club and country, and while his presence might have made the difference, Appiah got the chance to see others first hand.

Mubarak Wakaso was his bustling self on his return to the national team, while Ebenezer Ofori held his own in midfield.

It was Edwin Gyasi’s goal, though, that rescued a point for the West African nation who’s 2018 World Cup hopes had already gone up in smoke leading up to the clash at the Baba Yara Stadium.

It will now been interesting to see how Ghana shape next year, with Partey set to be the linchpin – who will start alongside him as the Black Stars turn their attention to 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in the New Year.

Ghana got up and running with a 5-0 thumping of Ethiopia.

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: Thomas Partey – The Ghanaian midfielder is a man transformed – 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers – Africa

by

Wednesday Nov 08, 2017. 13:00

Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey looks a man transformed this season, with the Ghana international having added goals to his game.

The hard-running midfielder, who could only conjure 987 playing minutes for the Spanish club side last season – scoring once – has already accumulated over a thousand minutes during the current campaign.

Partey has played 15 times for Atletico this season across all competitions, featuring in all but one of the club’s Spanish La Liga encounters.

Often deployed in a defensive midfield role, the 24-year-old’s ability to not only create goal-scoring opportunities, but find the back of the net himself has been notable.

With four goals to his name this season, Partey has proven that his hat-trick for the Black Stars in Brazzaville was not a fluke, and if anything, he should be deployed in a more attacking role more often.

Thomas Partey: Atletico coach allowed me to mature – 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers – Africa

Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey has explained that a lot of the credit for his current rise to prominence must go to Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone.

The 24-year-old has been in superb form for club and country, notably scoring four goals in his last three matches for the Black Stars, as well as a long-range strike for Atletico against Qarabag in the UEFA Champions League last week.

Yet Partey has had to wait several seasons to become a regular starter for the Spanish giants, with Simeone slowly grooming the Ghanaian into the player he is today.

“Simeone allowing me time to develop was important and I had to wait for my chances,” Partey told Kwese ESPN.

“The manager spoke with me many times in the past to keep me involved and now I am playing more.

“He is great at motivating the players and makes it clear to us how he wants us to play and how we can continue to improve,” he added.

Partey is set to feature for Ghana when they host Egypt for their final 2018 World Cup qualifier on Sunday.

Thomas Partey: Instability hurt Ghana’s 2018 hopes – 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers

by
Graeme Jackson

Sunday Nov 05, 2017. 10:00

Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey has said that the national team’s instability played a major role in their failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

The Black Stars swapped out coaches midway through the campaign, with James Kwesi Appiah returning to the team to replace Avram Grant.

Under the Israeli’s guidance, Ghana claimed just one point from their first two Group E matches and have never been able to make up the ground on Egypt, who secured qualification with a game to spare.

“It was a shame to lose Avram Grant because he is a great manager,” Partey told Kwese ESPN. “Now, Appiah is here and he is also a great coach.

“Each one comes with their own ideas and as the managers changed, there were changes in the team so we needed some time to settle,” he added.

“I think that is why qualification did not go well.

“We are disappointed not to have qualified but our focus now is to keep pushing in order to improve.”

The Black Stars will wrap up their qualification campaign with a clash at home to Egypt next weekend, where only pride will be at stake.

Ghana’s Thomas Partey has been ruled out of the final 2018 World Cup qualifier against Egypt later this month.

The Atletico Madrid midfielder is ineligible for the dead-rubber match at Cape Coast Stadium on November 12 due to an accumulation of yellow cards.

The 24-year-old will be sorely missed by the Black Stars, having shown great form for both the national team and his club side Atletico Madrid this season.

Partey notably scored a hat-trick in Ghana’s 5-1 win over Congo in an earlier qualifier, while yesterday evening he netted his first UEFA Champions League goal in Atletico’s 1-1 draw with Qarabag.

In Partey’s absence, Ghana coach James Kwesi Appiah has handed opportunities to the likes of Nasiru Mohammed and Nana Opoku Ampomah.

Ghana squad:

Ghana international Thomas Partey continued his goal-scoring form with a cracking strike for Atletico Madrid in a 1-1 draw against Qarabag in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday evening.

The goal, Partey’s first in Europe’s premier cup competition, was not enough, though, to lead the club to all three points as the Spanish giants remain winless in Group C.

The 24-year-old is set to enjoy his most fruitful campaign yet, having cemented a place in the club’s starting 11 of late.

Having found his scoring boots, Partey is quickly establishing himself as an integral member of the squad – and will be hoping to continue the trend as Atleti turn their attention back to Spanish La Liga action.

Thomas Partey is quickly establishing himself as a key member of Diego Simeone’s squad, and is on course to enjoy his best season at Atlético Madrid.

The 24-year-old has been the Argentine’s preferred choice in the defensive midfield position during the current campaign and has already racked up 11 appearances for the Spanish giants this season.

Partey has also added goals to his game and starred for Ghana in recent 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers – notably netting a hat-trick in a 5-1 thumping of Congo in Brazzaville.

The Black Stars ace could be in action for Atletico this evening as they take on Elche in a Copa Del Rey encounter.

Atlético are yet to taste defeat in the Spanish La Liga this season, but have made a slow start to their UEFA Champions League campaign – the club are winless after three group stage matches.

Golden Arrows have announced the signing of Zimbabwe national Thomas Chideu.

Chideu, 20, was officially unveiled by the club on Tuesday evening following a successful trial period at the KwaZulu-Natal outfit. The striker parted ways with Ajax Cape Town in August having failed to break into the Urban Warriors PSL team.

“Another prolific striker! We would like to welcome Thomas Chideu to the family,” Abafana Bes’thende tweeted.

Chideu, who only made two top-flight appearances during his time in the Mother City, will be hoping for a better shot at things on South Africa’s East Coast.

Arrows haven’t struggled for goals this season and are currently the joint highest scorers in the league with 11 goals in seven Absa Premiership fixtures.

Kudakwashe Mahachi and Lerato Lamola have been the main protagonists with four goals apiece.
