Spurs midfielder Winks sidelined by groin surgery

Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks has experienced surgical treatment on a groin injury that is very likely to rule him out for the rest of the season.

Winks has not performed after coming off in the closing stages of Tottenham’s Champions League quarter-remaining first leg win against Manchester City.

The England intercontinental has featured just three times for Mauricio Pochettino’s team from February and now seems set to miss Tottenham’s remaining matches this season.

Leon Balogun undergoes surgery on left hand – 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers – Africa

Nigerian defender Leon Balogun has undergone surgery on his left hand, as confirmed by his German club Mainz 05.

The Super Eagles defender suffered a fractured to his hand on Friday 17 November but soon went under the knife to treat the ailment.

He missed Mainz’s 1-0 win over Cologne in the Bundesliga this past weekend, but is expected to make a quick recovery.

“Leon Balogun suffered a middle hand fracture on his left hand on Friday, which was treated surgically,” Mainz wrote on their official website.

”However, with appropriate healing and a track, the center-back can return to the pitch in the coming weeks and be available for the last group matches.”

It is the second fracture Balogun has suffered in recent times, having damaged his cheekbone ahead of Nigeria’s recent matches against Algeria and Argentina.

Cameroon defender Oyongo to undergo surgery – 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers

Cameroon international Ambroise Oyongo is expected to undergo surgery after sustaining an injury against Morocco over the weekend.

The left-back suffered an injury during the Indomitable Lions’ 1-0 win over Morocco in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier in Yaounde on Saturday.

The Cameroonian Football Federation released the following statement on their official website stating that Oyongo will now miss the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia.

“After being injured during the match played on Saturday (June 10th 2017) in Yaounde against Morocco, Ambroise Oyongo Bitolo was taken to a hospital in Yaoundé where the diagnosis made by the medical staff of the indomitable Lions was confirmed by an MRI.

“Indeed, the defender was the victim of a rupture of the patellar tendon.

The player must therefore undergo surgery.

“In collaboration with its club, the Cameroon Football Federation is organizing for an evacuation as soon as possible.

“The player is therefore forfeited for the Confederations Cup which starts next weekend,” the statement read.

Cameroon’s first match at the FIFA Confederations Cup is against Chile at Otkrytiye Arena on Sunday. Kick-off is at 20h00 CAT.
