Ghana international Andre Ayew says he was close to regaining his old form towards the end of the 2016/17 English Premier League (EPL) campaign.

The West Ham United midfielder netted five goals in 13 EPL appearances after returning to the club from the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Gabon.

Ayew, who joined West Ham from fellow EPL side Swansea City prior to the 2016/17 campaign, is hoping to continue his good form in the new season.

“I think I was getting there [to my best form],” Ayew told Ghana Soccer Net.

“It was not my optimum, but I was getting there bit by bit by playing games,” the 27-year-old player continued.

“For me, it was a shame the season came to an end because I was starting to feel better after my injury.

“I will be hoping to continue from where I left from.”

West Ham’s first EPL match in the new season will be against Manchester United at the Old Trafford on Sunday, 13 August 2017.

Nigeria international Uche Agbo has revealed why he’s not disappointed after failing to realizing his dream of playing in the English Premier League (EPL).

This is after the midfielder completed his move to Belgian giants Standard Liege from EPL side Watford FC, who have decided to sell the youngster.

Agbo, 21, joined Watford on a five-year deal last year, but he was loaned back to Spanish outfit Granada after failing to secure a work permit in England.

“I’m very happy to join an ambitious club in Belgium, but when my time is right playing in the Premier League will come,” Agbo told BBC Sport.

“My focus right now is to settle at Standard Liege and give my all, by the power of God I will be there [in England] very soon.

“There is no disappointment or whatsoever, sometimes God takes us on a different road to get to our desired destination.”

The promising player enjoyed his stay at Granada where he made 31 La Liga appearances last season.

“I am grateful to Granada because playing in Spain helped my career a lot, from there I got a chance to join Watford and to play for Nigeria,” Agbo added.

“The Belgian league is closely followed across Europe; I just want to give my best here and you never know what the future holds.”

Agbo was once on the books of Italian side Udinese. Watford, Granada and Udinese are all owned by the Pozzo family.
