Jurgen Klopp: I said thank you to Mohamed Salah

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has shed the light on why Egyptian international Mohamed Salah was crucial in their 3-0 win on Wednesday against Stoke City.

Salah netted a brace as they downed Stoke in the English Premier League, but eyebrows were raised when the 25-year-old was benched for the start of the match.

However, Klopp’s decision turned out to be a clever move as he brought him on for the last 20 minutes to see his summer signing bag a brace.

“Thank you is all I said to Mohamed Salah, it is nice to come on in a situation like this,” Klopp said after the match.

“We have a lot of work to do, with Peter Crouch on the pitch it make it difficult and they are good on the ground but we have to keep fighting for the second ball.

“It was very deserved and we are very happy.”

On the other hand, Klopp added that he was impressed by the impact of the substitutes who were coming on in three degree weather.

“It is obviously good for us,” he told the official website. “It is difficult for all of the players coming on with this temperature.

“Last week we had a little bit of a problem [with the players that came on against Chelsea] and the next day more problems than the players that started, obviously sitting on the bench is not too nice, but today it worked really well. Two fantastic goals, to be honest.”

EPL defenders ‘scared’ of Mohamed Salah, says Liverpool teammate – Premier League 2017/2018

Bertin Basson

Friday Dec 01, 2017. 10:30

Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool teammate Emre Can has showered praise on the Egyptian wing-wizard who has taken the English Premier League by storm.

The 25-year-old took his goal tally to an astonishing 17 across all competitions (12 in 14 league games) with a brace in a 3-0 win over Stoke City on Wednesday evening.

Salah emerged off the bench to great effect as the Reds claimed victory away to the Potters.

The former Chelsea attacker has hit the ground running at Anfield following his move from AS Roma ahead of the 2016-17 season, and German international midfielder Can is impressed…

“You can see that everyone is a little bit scared of him [Salah] as it is unbelievable how quick he is,” Can told the Liverpool ECHO.

“He has the confidence now. He has a lot of goals and everyone knows he can always score. Against Stoke, it was the same as he came on and showed his confidence.

“He had one chance and the volley was great after an unbelievable assist from Sadio (Mane). It’s good for us and very good for him. I hope it goes on,” he concluded.

Player Spotlight: Mohamed Salah – ‘The Egyptian winger’s goalscoring record is ridiculous’ – 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers – Africa

Austin Ditlhobolo

Monday Nov 27, 2017. 19:00

English international Joe Gomez has described Salah’s goalscoring record since his move to Liverpool as ‘ridiculous’.

This is after the Egyptian international hit the back of the net for the Reds in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea at the Anfield Stadium in an English Premier League game.

Salah, who broke the deadlock in the 65th minute against his former side, netted his 15th goal of the season out of 20 competitive appearances for the Reds.

As a result, the 25-year-old is the league’s top goalscorer with 10 goals having joined Liverpool from Italian side AS Roma prior to the current season.

“He’s come in and he’s been a massive addition to us, unbelievable. The goals he has scored but also his general play, his link-up,” Gomez told Liverpool’s official website.

“Our whole attacking force is quality, everybody knows that, so hopefully he can keep doing it for us.”

Salah’s goal was ultimately cancelled out by a late goal from Chelsea substitute Willian, but Gomez remained keen to take the positives from an industrious performance.

“I think we battled well and were aggressive from the start. We dominated generally, created some good chances and Mo got another goal for us, then we looked like we were going to hold on,” the 20-year-old said about his club teammate.

“But it was a decent bit of a skill [from Willian], I don’t know whether he meant it or not but it’s unlucky for us and disappointing not to get all three points.

“We knew they’d have the wing-backs wide and Hazard and Morata would come and pick up the ball and do what they do,” he continued.

“We were wary of their threats and did our best to try and stop them. We had our fair bit of play as well – they had their chances but so did we.

“They’re a top side, they’re champions, so we’ve got to take the positives.”

Salah will be keen to continue his scoring form for Liverpool when they face Stock City away in a league game on Wednesday.

Eden Hazard lavishes Mohamed Salah with praise – 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers

Bertin Basson

Friday Nov 24, 2017. 18:30

Chelsea winger Eden Hazard has reserved special praise for Liverpool‘s Mohamed Salah ahead of this weekend’s much anticipated English Premier League showdown.

Hazard believes that Salah – a former teammate of his at Stamford Bridge – deserved more time to prove himself with the Blues, having since gone on to star in the Italian Serie A and now at Anfield.

Salah has scored nine goals in his opening 12 top-flight games for the Reds, following his move from Roma in the off-season.

The Egypt international struggled for game time in London before eventually returning to England following successful stints in Florence and Rome.

“He is still my friend,” Hazard is quoted as saying when asked about the 25-year-old. “We are still in contact together. He’s a top, top, top player.

“He did not get his chance at Chelsea but we know, in the team, the quality he has. He is a fantastic striker and this season he has scored a lot of goals.

“He did not get the chance [at Chelsea]. Maybe because of the manager, because of the players, I don’t know. But he is a top player for sure.

“In training he did everything. Even in the games when he was playing, sometimes he scored goals, so we know the quality he has,” Hazard concluded.

‘I never see Mohamed Salah in training’ – Liverpool teammate – 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers – Africa

Wednesday Nov 22, 2017. 12:30

Liverpool defender Ragnar Klavan has revealed that he never sees teammate Mohamed Salah in training, but not because the Egyptian is skipping sessions…

In contrast, the Estonian explained that Salah is just too rapid with the 25-year-old’s blistering pace causing not only his opponents problems, but also those who don the same colours.

“Mo is a great player, I don’t actually see him in training because he’s so fast,” Klavan joked.

“He’s been really good since he came and especially now he’s scoring important goals. He’s a really important player for us.”

Salah, who has attracted reported interest from both Barcelona and Real Madrid, has scored 14 goals in 19 appearances across all competitions for the Reds since his move to Anfield ahead of the 2017-18 season.

Egyptian legend says Mohamed Salah led the whole World Cup campaign – 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers – Africa

Egyptian legend Hazem Emam has praised the Pharaohs and Liverpool player Mohamed Salah, labeling him as s hero after their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification.

Emam helped the North African nation to win the 1998 Nations Cup and earned 87 caps for Egypt.

He says Salah must be credited for the country’s qualification to the global showpiece.

The Reds winger played a crucial role in their penultimate World Cup qualifier as he scored twice to beat Congo 2-1 in October – a result which confirmed their ticket to the tournament.

“Salah is the man behind our qualification to the World Cup,” Emam said to the BBC.

“When we qualified in 1990, it was more of a team effort. This time, Salah was the leader of the whole campaign.

“Nobody in the history of Egypt has reached such a level in world football and been so successful with the national team.”

Meanwhile, Salah had a hand in all seven of the goals that took the Pharaohs to Russia, scoring five and assisting in two as coach Hector Cuper’s men returned to the tournament for the first time since 1990.

The speedy winger also continues to make waves in the English Premier League after netting a brace for the Reds as they beat Southampton 3-0 at home on Saturday.

The 25-year-old has been in scintillating form for Liverpool FC, who are amongst the clubs challenging for this season’s English Premier League title.

Salah inspired the Reds to a 3-0 victory over Southampton in a league encounter which was played at the Anfield Stadium on Saturday by grabbing a brace.

The lethal winger, who joined Liverpool from Italian Serie A club AS Roma prior to the current season, is now the league’s top goalscorer with nine goals.

The brace took his tally up to 14 goals for this season having made 18 appearances in all competitions for the Reds and he has been praised by Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp.

“If he continued at this rate he would finish the season on something like 70 goals, which isn’t really likely,” Klopp told the media after the Southampton game.

“We [all] have these moments. He could have scored the penalty [against Huddersfield] and he’s missed some big chances, but I realise [then] it’s just a moment. I really understand.

“These shots are pretty normal for him, like Phil [Coutinho]. Sadio (Mane) is able to do it. Gini (Georginio Wijnaldum) too. And Ox (Alex Oxlade Chamberlain) – he’s able to do it,” the German continued.

“But he hasn’t had the opportunity very often so far. At this moment, it is working for him [Salah].”

Salah will be looking to continue his good scoring form when Liverpool face Spanish side Sevilla in an UEFA Champions League match on Tuesday.

He has scored five goals in six Champions League matches for the Reds.

Egyptian international midfielder Mohamed Elneny says their fans deserve to be happy after the Pharaohs returned to the FIFA World Cup.

Elneny spoke to the Arsenal official website stressing that Egypt’s fans deserved the recent hard-fought achievement of reaching the upcoming World Cup after a 27 years absence from the tournament.

The 25-year-old midfielder began his international career in 2011 and was a key member of Egypt’s qualifying squad.

“I am Mohamed Elneny and I’m going to tell you all about football in Egypt,” said the midfielder.

“In Egypt, football affects so many people. We are told all the time that the relationship between the people and football affects our economy and overall mood. It affects every house, rich and poor.

“When the national team wins, everyone is happy and productive, but when we lose the opposite happens no one wants to work and the mood becomes not good.

“The generation before us won three African Cup of Nations in a row (2006,2008 and 2010), played in the Confederations Cup, and they achieved so many things.

“They did everything but they didn’t qualify for the World Cup.

“I think we learned from that and our manager Mr. Hector Cuper looked into that too and managed to fix few things. This doesn’t mean that previous generation was doing it wrongly.

“Now we did it and reached the World Cup. We worked hard, and the manager had a plan all the way in the qualifiers and finally we achieved the target.”

Senegalese and Liverpool forward Sadio Mane says he enjoys playing alongside his Egyptian teammate Mohamed Salah in the English Premier League.

The Reds player says he expects more to come from the Pharaohs international as they continue to terrorise defenders in the EPL.

Salah, who joined the Premier League team from Serie A side AS Roma during the summer transfer window, has adapted quickly to life at Anfield Stadium under manager Jurgen Klopp.

He has netted 12 goals in just 17 games with the Reds in all competitions and the Lions of Teranga international has labelled him as incredible.

“Mo is a great lad and an incredible player,” Mane told

“It is good that he has settled in so easily and there is so much more still to come from him. We get on well and I enjoy playing with him, but that’s the same with everyone. We have a very exciting team and we all want to help the club be successful.

“It doesn’t matter to me which position I have to be in because I have played in all the attacking roles – right, left, as the No.10, second striker and No.9,” the 25-year-old adds.

“My job is the same wherever I am on the pitch – I have to always be an option, to be aggressive and direct, to be a defender too and to help us play quicker.”

Mohamed Salah tipped as ‘signing of the season’

Bertin Basson

Wednesday Nov 15, 2017. 17:30

Mohamed Salah has been described as the ‘signing of the season’ by former West Ham United forward Dean Ashton.

Salah has been in an impressive form since arriving at Anfield from Roma in the European summer, with his early exploits attracting a lot of praise. He also scored the decisive goal as Egypt booked their return to the World Cup for the first time since 1990 in what has been a memorable few months for the winger.

The 25-year-old has scored 12 goals in 17 appearances across all competitions so far this season, with his record better than that of both Fernando Torres and Luis Suarez at this early stage of their respective Liverpool careers.

“Mohamed Salah is the best signing of the summer,” Ashton told the Premier League’s official website.

“He looks a totally different player from his time at Chelsea.

“I’ve been surprised by how quick, how direct he is, and he’s a better finisher than I thought.

”He’s really added to that Liverpool side.”

Salah endured a largely disappointing spell at Stamford Bridge, but a successful period in Italy has been followed by a rip-roaring start to his time with the Reds.

Monday Nov 13, 2017. 19:00

The 25-year-old forward has been hailed as one of the best signings in the English Premier League (EPL) by Liverpool FC icon Robbie Fowler.

Liverpool signed Salah from Italian giants AS Roma on a long-term contract for an initial €42m fee that could rise to up to €50m.

The fee was a club record, eclipsing the £35m spent on English striker Andy Carroll in 2011. Salah has since hit the ground running at Liverpool.

The Egyptian international has impressively netted 12 goals in 17 games across all competitions since joining the EPL giants.

Legendary English striker Fowler, who is Liverpool’s all-time top scorer with 346 goals, praised Salah’s qualities and goalscoring form.

“I think certainly at the start of the year there was plenty of goals in them, a few missed chances,” Fowler told ESPN.

“All the pressure was put on the defenders then because they were conceding goals,”

“But now they’re scoring goals and everything is taken away from the defense, I think we are quite happy the way we’re going, three good wins,” the 42-year-old continued.

“Certainly the signing of Mo Salah has probably been one of the signings of the Premier League so far.

“With the pace he has got he will have chances all day and he needs to keep up the good form because he is important for Liverpool,” he concluded.

Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool stats better than Suarez and Torres – 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers – Africa

Graeme Jackson

Sunday Nov 12, 2017. 13:00

Egyptian star Mohamed Salah has better stats at this stage of his Liverpool career than either Luis Suarez or Fernando Torres managed.

The Pharaohs attacker has been a revelation for the Reds since joining from Roma at the start of the 2017/18 season.

Salah has thus far managed 12 goals and three assists in his first 17 games for Liverpool across all competitions.

Only Anfield favourite Robbie Fowler scored more goals at the start of his Liverpool career.

Salah’s tally of 12 is more than Torres and Suarez managed, even though both were out-and-out strikers.

The Egyptian has been given the current international break off by Pharaohs coach Hector Cuper, and will play no part in the Ghana v Egypt World Cup qualifier later today.

But he is sure to be back in Liverpool red when they host Southampton for a Premier League clash on Saturday 18 November.

Egypt are set to face Ghana without the services of left-back Mohamed Abdel-Shafy due to injury, the Egyptian Football Association have confirmed on Monday.

The 32-year-old Al Ahly defender has been withdrawn from the Pharaohs squad. This will be the first game he misses since the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign started.

According to the national team doctor, Mohamed Abou El-Ela, he revealed that Abdel-Shafy needs a week to return to full training after he picked up an injury with his club.

Abdel-Shafy’s absence may present a chance for 21-year-old Karim Hafez, but coach Hector Cuper might also use Ahmed Fathi or Omar Gaber at the left-back position.

Hafez made his international debut in a friendly against Malawi in August 2015, but his only competitive appearance for the Pharaohs came against Morocco in the quarter-finals of the 2017 CAF African Cup of Nations in Gabon.

Although they have qualified for the World Cup next year in Russia, the Pharaohs will face the Black Stars on Sunday, November 12 at Cape Coast Stadium.

Austin Ditlhobolo

Monday Nov 06, 2017. 19:00

The Egyptian international has been one of the most outstanding players in the English Premier League (EPL) in the current 2017/18 campaign.

Salah produced a Man of the Match performance as his side, Liverpool FC thumped West Ham United 4-1 in an EPL match at the London Stadium on Saturday.

The 25-year-old, who joined the Reds from Italian side AS Roma prior to the current campaign, grabbed a brace which took his tally up to seven league goals for this season.

He is only a goal behind joint leading goalscorers Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur) and Sergio Aguero (Manchester City) in the race for this season’s EPL Golden Boot.

However, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp feels that Salah, who has netted 12 goals in 17 matches in all competitions, can still improve.

“It was completely different today to the things that he is used to,” Klopp said on Daily Mail.

“He did really well. He is so open to get used to what we do and that is really nice.

“I’m really happy that he could make this decisive moment. They were all decisive by the end but I would like to have this answer always when we concede a goal,” he continued.

“It would make life easier. He needs to get used to the intensity that we ask. It’s not that Arsenal didn’t, they play fantastic football.

“But we are really on it with these counter-pressing things and the switch immediately to make the break,” the German tactician added.

“We are all used to it but he will be a really important player for us.”

Salah, who played an instrumental role in helping Egypt qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, will be given a well-earned rest later this month.

He has been left out of the latest Egypt squad that will face Ghana in his country’s final World Cup qualifier on November 12.

Michael Owen impressed by ‘frightening’ Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah’s impressive run of form has caught the eye of former Liverpool and Real Madrid forward Michael Owen.

Owen, who himself boasted extreme pace on his day, has described the Egyptian’s talent as ‘frightening’ with defenders struggling to come to grips with the attacker’s pace.

The 25-year-old continued his impressive start to the season, leading the club to a 3-0 win over Maribor in the UEFA Champions League this week as he now sets his sights on downing West Ham United.

Salah has scored 10 goals since arriving at Anfield – an impressive return after 16 matches with the former Chelsea winger’s ratio matching that of Fernando Torres and bettering Luis Suarez tally at the start of their respective careers on Merseyside.

“Salah is frightening really, he gets so many chances,” Owen told BT Sport.

“His goal return is really impressive, he seems to be one of them players the chances always fall to. He’s got great movement.”

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: Mohamed Salah may have lost his job as Liverpool penalty taker – 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers – Africa

Austin Ditlhobolo

Monday Oct 30, 2017. 10:00

Egyptian international Mohamed Salah’s stint as Liverpool FC’s first-choice penalty taker could last just one game.

This is after Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp spoke of the different pressures of playing for the English Premier League (EPL) giants after Salah missed a spot-kick against Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

Salah converted a stoppage-time penalty to give his nationa, Egypt a dramatic 2-1 win over Congo-Brazzaville and a place at the 2018 FIFA World Cup three weeks ago.

However, the 25-year-old winger was denied by Huddersfield goalkeeper Jonas Lossl from the spot-kick in the first-half at Anfield Stadium, but Liverpool went on to win 3-0 in a EPL clash.

“I thought it made sense after the Egypt penalty – obviously the pressure is bigger in Liverpool than in Egypt to qualify for the World Cup!” Klopp joked on Liverpool Echo.

James Milner and Roberto Firmino, who were on the pitch against Huddersfield, had been Liverpool first-choice penalty takers, before Saturday’s clash, but German tactician indicated that Daniel Sturridge could have been an option to step up.

Asked if Salah is now the penalty taker, Klopp added: “I’m not sure that he is anymore… I think Daniel would have been a safe number in this group of players.”

Due to Salah’s first half miss, Liverpool players left the pitch to a small smattering of boos at half-time, but Klopp played down any criticism from the stands.

“I would not make a big deal out of it (the booing). I have heard bigger atmospheres in my life when you know ‘something is wrong here’,” he continued.

It was not nice to watch (the first half). It was just work. When you go to watch football you do not only want to see work – that’s how it is.”

Liverpool scored three times in ths second-half with Salah, who has scored five league goals this season, grabbing an assist.

After netting a brace against Congo on Sunday, Egypt and Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah says he cant explain how happy he is to reach the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Salah admitted it was difficult to put his emotions into words after his two goals booked a World Cup place for the Pharaohs for the first time in 28 years on Sunday.

The Reds forward struck twice Congo at the Borg El Arab Stadium, including a dramatic 95th-minute penalty, to make a historical return to the global tournament.

“I can’t really express how I feel, I don’t quite talk so much but I’m really proud. We realised a long-awaited dream,” said Salah to his club’s website.

“That was to me a dream come true, whether as a footballer or an Egyptian citizen and fan. I’m proud I made the Egyptians happy by scoring today twice against Congo.

“The game was a difficult one and all the qualifiers were difficult games as well, today there is no big difference between every team and the other.

“When I stepped up to take the penalty, I didn’t think of anything but scoring and winning the game.

“The most difficult moment in my life was when the fans fell silent following Congo’s equaliser but thank God we finally realised a childhood dream of my own.”

Mohamed Salah brace sends Egypt to Russia – 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers – Africa

Brian Lee

Sunday Oct 08, 2017. 21:22

A brace from Mohamed Salah sees Egypt uncatchable at the top of their 2018 World Cup qualifying group after beating Congo 2-1 at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria on Sunday night.

It was not all plain sailing for the Pharaohs who needed a 95th minute penalty goal to seal the victory in their penultimate Group E qualifier.

The win, though, is enough to see Egypt go to the top of Group E with 12 points from five matches.

Uganda, who drew 0-0 with Ghana on Saturday, are second in the group with eight points and with only one 2018 World Cup qualifying game to go.

Ghana are third with six points and Congo last with one point in Group E.

The match itself in Alexandria on Sunday was a rather dull affair with Egypt very cagey in attack as they opted to defend in numbers to avoid defeat.

Congo, on the other hand, offered very little in attack and the opening half ended 0-0.

Egypt played much better in the second half and threw numbers forward in attack in search of the goal that would send them to Russia next year.

The Pharaohs thought they had found that goal in the 63rd minute when Mohamed Salah found the back of the net with a clinical finish, 1-0.

Egypt looked to be cruising to victory until Arnold Bouka Moutou equalised for Congo in the 88th minute.

The drama, however, was not over with Mohamed Salah converting from the penalty spot in the 95th minute to hand Egypt a 2-1 win and a place in the World Cup next year.

The last round of qualifiers will take place in November with Congo hosting Uganda and Egypt traveling to Ghana.

Egypt (0) 2 (Mohamed Salah 63’ + 95’ pen)

Congo (0) 1 (Moutou 88’)

Egypt: El Hadary, Hegazy, Fathi, Abdelshafi, Rabia, Elneny, Hamed, Sobhi (Elmohamady 88’), Salah, Hassan (Gamal 78’), Gomaa (Mahmoud 56’).

Congo: Mouko, Itoua, Mayembo, Etou, Badila, N’dinga, Saint-Louis (Gandze 93’), Delarge (Bouka Moutou 71’), Oniangue, Bahamboula (Ndockyt 84’), Bifouma.

Cuper calls up Mohamed Awaad ahead of Uganda return – 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers

Despite doing well at Liverpool, Egyptian and Al Ahly legend, Mohamed Abou-Treika says Mohamed Salah must not be in a hurry to impress at the English Premier League side.

Abou-Treika reckons that Salah’s performances for the Reds in the pre-season friendlies have put him under pressure.

Salah scored on four occasions during the Reds’ pre-season summer campaign. His goals came against against Wigan Athletic, Leicester City, Hertha Berlin and Bayern Munich.

“Salah’s brilliant pre-season put him under pressure when the season started. Liverpool fans now consider him one of the team’s stars under Jurgen Klopp,” Abou-Treika told beIN.

Salah netted on Wednesday as the Reds defeated Hoffenheim 4-2 to ease into the Champions League group stage with a 6-3 aggregate win.

“Salah has to liberate himself and not be in a hurry to score goals every game because this will put him under a huge pressure,” adds the legend.

“Salah is a player of a high level and surely is a solid addition to Liverpool, he will become one of the team’s pillars this season.”

Salah will now hope to find the back of the net once again as they welcome Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday, 27 August.

Roma will suffer for not having Mohamed Salah in their team in the upcoming Serie A season, according to Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti.

The Egyptian moved to Liverpool in a big-money deal earlier in the transfer window and Ancelotti reckons the Giallorossi will struggle without him.

“Roma? I find it a bit hard to work them out. They’ve changed coach and I’ve followed [Eusebio] Di Francesco for some time,” said the Bayern boss in evaluating the Serie A title contenders.

“I thought he did very well with Sassuolo, but the loss of [Mohamed] Salah, I believe, will be felt.

“We’ll also see how their first season will be without a monument like [Francesco] Totti in the dressing room,” he added.

Ancelotti added that Juventus remain the favourites to win the Italian championship, though he has noted AC Milan’s impressive work in the transfer market.

Egypt and new Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah says they are doing well in their pre-season ahead of the new 2017/18 English Premier League campaign.

In the wake of their win over German Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, Salah revealed his satisfaction with the Reds’ pre-season form.

The former Chelsea and AS Roma winger switched to Anfield Stadium for a club-record €42 million and has settled in nicely since his arrival.

He has netted four goals in their pre-season so far and has received rave reviews from manager Jurgen Klopp.

The 24-year-old Pharaohs international said he cannot choose Klopp or former Roma coach Luciano Spalletti’s style, but enjoys winning games.

“Thank God, we are playing good and we are clearly improving every game, which is the most important thing for the pre-season friendlies to get us ready for the Premier League which is kicking off very soon,” Salah told ONSport.

“Everybody on the field is doing his best job, we are all following a certain style of play and thank God we are all working well as a team.

“Every coach has a different style of play, I cannot choose a preference, all what I can do is adapt.

“I had a great run with (Luciano) Spalletti and won lots of games and until now I am winning with Klopp and this is the important thing.”

The Reds are set to open their 2017/18 EPL campaign against Watford away on August 12 at Vicarage Stadium.

Arsenal gaffer Arsene Wenger hails Mohamed Elneny – 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers – Africa

Friday Jul 28, 2017. 15:00

Arsenal FC star Mohamed Elneny has been shifted from his regular central midfield role to the back three by the club’s manager Arsene Wenger.

The French tactician believes that Egypt international Elneny, who is 25, will florish in defence.

“Yes he does. Elneny is a player who has a fantastic mentality and attitude, and his main target is to help the team. When he plays there, of course he does extremely well,” Wenger told

“Of course [he needs to learn the defensive side], but I always felt that a good central midfielder can be a good centre back.

“With the fact of course that when you’re playing in the back four you have to be decisive in the challenges, you have a bit more flexibility in the middle of a back three. He can do that,” he continued.

“Overall on tour, I played players like Elneny in a back three and he coped very well. Maitland-Niles sometimes played at centre back as well, even in the big games against Chelsea.

“You see their strengths and their weaknesses, and you learn a lot about your players and your combinations too,” he added.

“The advantage we have is that we have a good stability in our squad, so I already know who I can combine with who, more or less.”

Elneny has made 25 English Premier League (EPL) appearances for Arsenal since joining the club from Swiss giants FC Basel in January, 2016.

Information coming from England is that Turkish giants, Galatasaray are working on securing a move for Egypt and Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny.

It is reported that the Turkish side are in talks to sign the Pharaohs international as he has been linked with a move away from the club.

The 25-year-old has recently been linked to English Premier League side Leicester City after Arsenal accepted a £10m bid, but the player opted to stay in London and fight for a starting spot at Arsenal.

The Gunners signed Elneny from FC Basel for £5m in January 2016. The midfielder made 40 appearances across all competitions.

However, he is deemed surplus to requirements by manager Arsene Wenger and according to Turkish outlet Fotospor, Galatasaray sporting director Cenk Ergun arrived in London on Sunday to engage the club.

Ergun has already started negotiations for the Egyptian international, with the Turkish side reportedly keen to get the deal done after their other transfers have fallen through.

Should a deal materialise, Elneny could become the second Egyptian player to join the Turkish League this summer alongside Mahmoud Trezeguet, who joined Kasımpaşa on a season-long loan.

According to media reports in England, Egypt and Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny has turned down a move to Leicester City.

The Pharaohs midfielder has attracted interest from the Foxes and an agreement has been reached by both clubs.

However, despite a £10 million price tag that has been agreed upon, the 25-year-old player has turned down the offer opting to stay in London.

The Sun website reports that Elneny is happy in London although he is not getting enough game time, but he insists he will fight for a starting spot under manager Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal initially signed Elneny from Basel for £5m in January 2016, with the right-footed midfielder making 40 appearances across all competitions for the Gunners.

However, the former Arab Contractors player is enjoying a delightful pre-season with Arsenal as they beat Bayern Munich at the International Champions Cup in Shanghai.

It is repoted that the FA Cup champions are willing to part with Elneny for the right price as they have Francis Coquelin, Aaron Ramsey, Granit Xhaka and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who can play in his position.

On the other hand, Leicester could come back in January for Elneny who has three years left on his current deal.

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen says Mohamed Salah’s signing will boost the Reds ahead of the 2017/18 English Premier League season.

Owen says the Egyptian international is a valuable addition to the squad and his pace will help manager Jurgen Klopp in their quest to challenge for trophies.

Owen netted 118 EPL goals in 216 appearances for Liverpool and has thrown his support behind Salah..

“I think Salah is a really good signing, he didn’t quite nail it at Chelsea, but he was young at the time,” said Owen to the Mirror Football.

“He’s gone away, he had a good time at Roma, he’s got outstanding pace and if you’re an attacking player with loads of pace then you’re valuable.

“They needed to bolster the squad for Champions League football, a higher standard of games, so I think it’s important that they did that.”

On the other hand, the ex-England international added that signing of Guinea international Naby Keita from RB Leipzig could benefit the Anfield-based club.

“That could be an amazing signing if that came off,” adds Owen.

The former AS Roma and Chelsea winger recently bagged his first goal in a Liverpool shirt and will be looking to continue that form during the pre-season.
