Ugandan Women’s national team star Jean Ssenide has teamed up with Manchester United’s Juan Mata to stage a tournament and unearth more talent.

Following the 2016 edition of the Sseninde Women Development Cup, efforts are being undertaken to ensure a much better tourney this year.

The Crystal Palace player is the key brain through the Sseninde Foundation and has engaged Mata to help develop more players in her country.

“The preparations for a successful Sseninde Women Development Football Cup are underway,” Ssenide tells KawowoSports.

“This tournament is for young girls and women who seek a chance to play without opportunities.

“Juan Mata is supporting the 2nd edition with a common goal to help create more opportunities for those less fortunate than us.

“There is excitement as we continue to prepare ahead of the 2nd Edition of the tournament. There is a chance to show support to a unique group of women and girls who have passion and desire to play soccer but with less opportunities, this time with a campaign.”

Sseninde was recently among the panel for the BBC African Player of the Year and is currently a key figure for the national women’s football team, the Crested Cranes.

The highly-rated central midfielder made his first competitive appearance for his club Southampton in just over month on Sunday.

Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino introduced Lemina with 12 minutes left as the Saints beat Everton 4-1 in an English Premier League game at home.

The Gabonese international has recovered well from an ankle injury which he sustained after facing West Bromwich Albion in a league game on the 21st of October 2017.

Lemina has been one of the Saints’ best players this season having joined the club from Italian Serie A giants Juventus prior to the current campaign.

“The Argentine has practically a full squad to choose from at the Etihad Stadium, with Mario Lemina having made his first appearance in just over month from the substitute’s bench against Everton on Sunday.

“Lemina completed the final 12 minutes of Southampton’s comprehensive 4-1 victory over the Toffees, his first sight of action since the home meeting with West Bromwich Albion on 21 October.

“Saints’ midfield options are set to be boosted further by the return of Oriol Romeu after a one-match suspension.”

Lemina, 24, has made eight league appearances for Southampton this season.

Ivorian legend Emmanuel Eboue has urged his countryman Yaya Toure to quit Manchester City.

Toure has found himself relegated to a bit-part role this season at City, who are managed by Pep Guardiola.

Eboue, who played for Arsenal between 2004 and 2011, spoke to the Manchester Evening News about Toure’s situation.

“I’m not sure that he is going to stay because he wants to play,” the 34-year-old said.

“If he still there he’s not going to play so I think for him it is better to leave – to go to play.

“He’s a good player so every week when you stay on the bench and you don’t play, it’s hard in your head,” he added.

“It’s time for him to leave. When you see City this year, the players they have are good – good midfielders, good strikers.

“So for me it is time to for him to leave,” Eboue, who has 79 Ivory Coast caps, concluded.

Toure, 34, has made only two appearances in the English Premier League (EPL) for City this season.

Manchester United can win the Premier League title if they continue their strong start to the season, says Ivory Coast defender Eric Bailly.

Bailly has been a regular in the heart of United’s defence thus far in 2017/18, though he missed out on their last match, a 4-0 home win over Crystal Palace.

With the Ivorian’s help, the Red Devils have kept six clean sheets from seven games – but they will be more stringently tested when they face hated rivals Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

“This year there is more desire, more success at everything we do,” Bailly told United Review.

“It’s important to see the team starting off well in top form, and I think that with the work we’ve done, and the work by the manager and the staff, we’ll continue the way we’ve begun and that will lead us to the Premier League title.”

Bailly will hope to return to Jose Mourinho’s starting XI for the clash against Liverpool, which kicks off at 13h30 CAT on Saturday.

Napoli’s Algerian left-back Faouzi Ghoulam is reportedly on the transfer radar of Premier League giants Manchester City.

The Fennec Foxes defender will be out of contract at Napoli at the end of the current season and has thus far not agreed a new deal.

According to Le Buteur, City have been in contract with Ghoulam’s representatives in regards to a move to England.

Pep Guardiola’s side are in need of a left-back after new signing Benjamin Mendy suffered a season-ending knee injury.

With Ghoulam able to leave Napoli for free midway through next year, he may be available for a bargain price in the January window.

Yet City will face stiff competition for the player’s services, as the Algerian has also been linked with the likes of Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

According to The Star, Mahrez prematurely left the Algerian camp for Old Trafford in hope of sealing a last minute deal, but he was left red-faced as a move to the Red Devils failed to materialise.

The Leicester City winger was allowed to leave the Algerian squad on the eve of their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Zambia, in an attempt to force a move away from the Foxes.

Mahrez,26, was desperate to end his stay at the King Power Stadium, but despite widespread interest the wing-wizard failed to secure a deadline day switch.


Arsenal, Barcelona, Manchester United, Roma and Tottenham Hotspur were among the clubs said to be interested in the attacker, and despite his last-ditch effort to join one of Europe’s big guns he will remain in Leicester.

Manchester City are reportedly close to signing Nigerian striker Olarenwaju Kayode from Austria on a four-year deal.

Reports in Europe indicate that the Cityzens are set to sign Nigeria international, but will send him on a season-long loan to Spanish side Girona.

The 24-year-old striker finished as the top scorer in Austria’s top flight last season with 17 goals in 33 games.

Kayode netted 24 goals in 48 matches for Vienna last season including two goals in two games against Roma in the Europa League.

According to the BBC website, the Etihad Stadium-based outfit is yet to officially announce the deal for Kayode.

The forward has also played for Cote d’Ivoire’s ASEC Mimosas, FC Luzern in Switzerland, Maccabi Netanya in Isreal and has represented Nigeria at the 2009 and 2011 U17 and U20 FIFA World Cups respectively.

He made his debut for the Super Eagles in an international friendly against Senegal in March and has featured three times for the three-time African Champions.

Former Manchester United youth coach Joaquim Francisco Filho, has been appointed as the new head coach of Mauritius.

The BBC revealed on Wednesday that the 76-year-old had taken over the reigns from Joe Tshupula, who announced his resignation following the country’s failure to qualify for the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN), set to be hosted in Kenya.

Filho faces an uphill task, but will be pleased with the showing of the Islander’s U17 team in reaching the final of the 2017 COSAFA Cup on home soil.


As for the Senior side, Filho’s next task is preparing the country for the Indian Ocean Islands games, scheduled to take place in the country in two years time with Mauritius having also failed to reach the group stages of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

“I have noticed that there is a great willingness to learn and improve here in Mauritius,” Filho is quoted as saying.

“It is most important. You have to learn the basics, and then climb the ladder step by step.”

“A lot remains to be done in Mauritius especially at technical level.

“In football, the most important thing is technique whereas the physical part comes next,” he concluded.
