Title race issue attracts fury from Klopp in Munich

Jurgen Klopp gave an angry response when questioned how defeat or victory in the Champions League on Wednesday at Bayern Munich could effect Liverpool in the EPL League title race.

Immediately after a goalless draw in the last-16 to start with leg at Anfield 3 weeks in the past, a win or score draw in Munich in the return game would send out Liverpool into the quarter-finals.

Liverpool are locked in a tense battle with Manchester City at the top rated of the EPL League and their fans on Merseyside are desperate for a initial English league title for 29 yrs.

An exasperated Klopp took offence when asked whether he felt defeat in Munich would hamper Liverpool in the title race or if victory could support them make momentum in the league.

“I really do not believe that any other coach or manager in the world has to respond to this dilemma when he performs in the Champions League,” he fumed.”I truly think which is exceptional — that only transpires if you are the Liverpool manager or if the pundits (inquiring) occur from Manchester United.”We want to be centered on this game and even if it (defeat) would harm us, we could not transform it, the whole world will be viewing this game tomorrow night time.

“On the other aspect, it (victory) will establish momentum, certainly, but only if we play excellent football.”This game has nothing to do with anything else.”EPL League pressure aside,

Klopp knows his Liverpool facet face a stern test against a Bayern side buoyed by likely leading in the Bundesliga at the weekend for the first time due to the fact September.

Liverpool welcome again defender Virgil van Dijk, who was suspended for the initial leg, but Naby Keita, who begun the Anfield stalemate, is dominated out injured.

Bayern have gained their 3 league games easily since the initially leg, putting up crushing 5-1 and 6- victories about Moenchengladbach and Wolfsburg respectively.

Klopp tasted victory in 4 of his 9 games at the Allianz Arena as Borussia Dortmund coach from 2008-2015.

He is aware what to anticipate in Bayern’s yard and referred to as on the travelling Liverpool fans to lend their guidance.”I might say to ours (fans), never be reluctant — give it your all,” stated Klopp.”We have to be prepared from the 1st 2nd and if we deal with it, we will have deserved it.

“What I know of facing Bayern is you have to be seriously courageous on the ball, that’s what we have to do, we will get our times, but it is really all about striking a stability.”Bayern defended in the first leg at a significant amount and they will not do that tomorrow, but it will not be easier for us.”

“It is almost nothing, not a small little bit private,” claimed Klopp on Monday. “There were under no circumstances any negative points with Bayern but when we performed them or when they bought our players how could I be content and say ‘Great, good strategy I am going to carry him in my auto.’

“That was not good for us at Dortmund but it really is component of the business. In these moments I was not content, but it is extended ago.”

Inspite of achieving 4 semi-finals and a quarter-final since 2013, Bayern have not additional to their five European Cup wins since Arjen Robben’s late winner at Wembley six years ago.

Liverpool also came close to adding to their five European crowns final season when shedding out to Real Madrid in the final, but Klopp thinks the reality his facet are even regarded contenders for the title now is a certain signal of progress since he was employed in 2015.

“The ideal matter of all the points we did so far since we are alongside one another is that we are a real competitor once again. That is of system not plenty of, but it is a huge phase,” additional Klopp.

“Staying not only component of the level of competition but persons thinking we can beat Bayern, which is a huge matter. The tale so far is a good one particular but not concluded nevertheless.”

Liverpool have had 10 times to get ready for Bayern’s pay a visit to, but in spite of the lay-off Klopp even now has a team range headache.

Virgil van Dijk is suspended, Joe Gomez is sidelined with a lower leg fracture and Dejan Lovren faces a race against time to recover from a hamstring harm, so Joel Matip and Fabinho are expected to sort a make-shift sweeper pairing.

Roberto Firmino also skipped training on Monday thanks to a virus making the Brazilian ahead a question.

Having said that, Klopp is hoping the electrical power of Anfield’s famous atmosphere on a European night will give his facet the extra encouraging hand they will need to choose a direct to Germany in 3 weeks’ time.

“In Germany a good deal of persons discuss now about the atmosphere at Anfield. There was a good deal of discuss that we are it’s possible the most psychological club in world football,” additional Klopp.

“Emotion in my opinion is a really positive matter, so let us present that tomorrow night.”

Bayern’s gradual begin to the Bundesliga season place coach Niko Kovac promptly under pressure in his initially campaign in cost.

But the Croatian refused to countenance irrespective of whether he faces the sack ought to Bayern fail to make the final 8 for the initially time since 2012 in spite of becoming handed a devilishly challenging draw.

“If you appear at what Liverpool did in the Champions League final season and the Premier League this season, it is the most challenging draw we could get,” claimed Kovac.

“It is not about me tomorrow. It is about the club and the team.”

Bayern could also be with no some essential players as Franck Ribery and Jerome Boateng did not travel with the rest of the squad.

“It would have been a substantial challenge if we experienced to play Wednesday and then Saturday. I have no notion how we would have finished that, to be truthful.

“Now we have two days’ recovery for the boys with the most minutes then we get started preparing them for the Leicester game, which is yet another tough process. It will not be a real split, we have to use it for education.”

Klopp’s unbeaten facet go into the meeting with a 7-point lead over City, who have slipped to third place after a pair of shock defeats, but is keen to play down the hoopla bordering his facet and put the concentration on Pep Guardiola’s pre-season title favourites.

“A extremely complicated a single of the most complicated games you can play in the fashionable football world,” he instructed reporters on Wednesday.

“We have to be geared up as fantastic as doable, we have to be courageous, we have to be total of need, indignant … but with the understanding the opponent is, for me, even now the finest team in the world.”

Klopp and Guardiola have each talked up the power of their opposition ahead of the clash, with the City manager returning the compliment by hailing Liverpool as the world’s top team.

Liverpool have dropped just six points this season, and go into the match on a nine-match winning streak in the league.

Klopp: Steven Gerrard has made an amazing start

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has reported Steven Gerrard’s get started as a senior manager at Rangers has been “amazing.”

Gerrard still left his function as Liverpool’s underneath-18s coach in the summer to consider cost of Rangers, and he has now guided them to the group stages of a European opposition for the initially time since 2010-eleven soon after owning competent for the Europa League.

Klopp is retaining a close eye on Rangers’ development this term, with Liverpool kids Ovie Ejaria and Ryan Kent investing the season on bank loan at Ibrox.

Then you lose against Celtic. Wow, what a surprise! That is a best team in the league. Celtic were being not fifty or sixty percent superior like in the last couple of many years so they are coming closer. That is the only way to get them 1 day.

“That is his position to do but, so far — additional than excellent. It is excellent football. In Europe, it was amazing. So they have a excellent team collectively. They have to make improvements to — that is it.”

In the meantime, Klopp has welcomed last week’s news of Andrew Robertson being named captain of Scotland.

Klopp feels these types of an honour is deserved for the 24-year-old, who worked his way up from the Scottish fourth tier ahead of signing for Liverpool in summer 2017.

“Andy is a superb fella. He is a extremely good and good man or woman. He can be a chief in the upcoming, a hundred percent,” he reported. “He made large techniques in the last 1-and-a-fifty percent many years since we worked collectively. Which is seriously great.

“He has made large techniques in the last four or five many years since he started his vocation. So it really is a good tale.

“He is even now young but he is a chief now and he will be even superior in that in the upcoming.”

I would pay the biggest fine in World Football if I comment – Klopp

I would pay the biggest fine in World Football if I comment – Klopp

Liverpool Manager, Jurgen Klopp was left frustrated with the officiating of the high tensioned clash between his side and Tottenham Hotspurs as they were made to drop points as a result of a last-kick penalty which was converted by Harry Kane for his 100th Premier League goal.

The obviously furious German tactician stated that he would be made to pay the biggest fine in World football if he makes an honest remark about the performance of the referee, Jon Moss after awarding two controversial penalties to Tottenham.

Kane missed the first penalty but was calm to score the second in the last minute of the encounter after Muhammed Salah had given Liverpool the lead few minutes earlier to force the game to a 2-2 draw.

The former Dortmund boss believed that the two penalties shouldn’t have stood as Kane was offside for the first and Lamela going down under van Dijk’s challenge was absolutely laughable.

He said: “Obviously I can’t change anything so what’s my job now? To create headlines? To be punished? To pay a fine?

“If I say what I think, I would pay the biggest fine in world football. That makes absolutely no sense.

“I have no problem with people making mistakes but if you don’t see the situation, then step aside.

“I thought for the first penalty they (Moss and his assistant) were discussing. I didn’t see Jon Moss asking anything.

“At the end, I’ve learned something new and now people will think I know nothing about football because I thought it was offside.

“But the second one, it’s not about who is where. In the 93rd minute, you whistle a penalty when you are 100 percent sure.

“It’s clear in these situations the opposition wants to go down, wants to cause these type of problems, but we have to accept it, I can’t change it. But it’s really hard to get.”

Henderson is an exceptional Player – Klopp

Liverpool Manager, Jurgen Klopp has stated that club captain, Jordan Henderson is an exceptional player and he cannot understand why the midfielder is always subject to regular criticisms.

The England International made his return from injury to be included in the Red’s Premier League starting XI in their clash with Huddersfield for the first time since December 22.

The Liverpool Skipper delivered a magnificent performance to help them overcome an impressive Huddersfield side to make his Manager further convinced of his stand about his brilliance.

In his words, the Manager said: “I don’t get this, I don’t even know if people are not happy with Jordan, he is an exceptional player”.

“He didn’t prove that to me at Huddersfield, it was clear before. When he is not available that is always a blow for us like it is with other players.

“It is good to have him back and hopefully he stays fit now until the end of the season. It is important for Liverpool and England. He is a fantastic player and an even more fantastic lad.”

The Reds can consolidate their grip of the third position on the League table with a victory over rivals Tottenham this weekend, a game they lost 4-1 in the reverse fixture away at Wembley earlier in the season but the German tactician believes that his side will not be affected by the poor result in October.

“The Tottenham game at Wembley was not a good game for us. They had a good start, a good middle and then a good finish, that’s why they won,” said Klopp.

“But it has absolutely nothing to do with the next game. The situation in the table, our targets and what we want to do, it is clear that it is a very important game.

“These are kind of six-point games. The only advantage in these sort of games is to play at home.”

Klopp might be fired if he fails to deliver silverware – Toshack

Former Liverpool striker, John Toshack has warned that Manager, Jurgen Klopp might be fired at the end of the season if his team fails to deliver a trophy.
The former Borussia Dortmund Manager was appointed after Brendan Rodgers was fired in October 2015 and he guided the Anfield Club to an impressive end of the season as they were the finalist in the League Cup and the Europa League.
Klopp signed a six-year deal with Liverpool in the summer of 2016 and led the club to a fourth-place finish in the League last season.
Toshack believes that the ongoing season will be pivotal in the Manager’s career as he stated that the hierarchy at Liverpool would likely weigh his performance in the summer.
He said: “I think at Liverpool it’s about winning trophies, He [Klopp] seems a bright, happy-go-lucky type who obviously was successful at the last club he was in, in Germany but… I think this year, or by the end of next season, you need to see some kind of trophies there.”
“If not, particularly, the way football is these days, I think they’ll be looking to change again.
“I think this is a big season for Klopp. When the time comes, middle of May, end of May, will be time to sit back and look.”
He added that Klopp will have to address his team’s issues defensively to stand a genuine chance of delivering silverware to the club.
“Defensively, the Liverpool I knew, or the Liverpool we became to know over the years, win championships conceding 15 or 16 goals,” he said. “Liverpool concede far too many goals. However bright and attacking your football is, if you need to score three or four to win a game every week, it’s going to become very, very difficult.
“They’ve shipped in too many goals recently and I guess even a fourth-place finish this year would be, I think, as much as Liverpool can hope for.”

Liverpool can deliver without Coutinho

Liverpool Manager, Jurgen Klopp believe that his side’s victory over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City days after star man, Philippe Coutinho left the Anfield club is an “important statement”.

The highly entertaining encounter finished 4:3 in Liverpool’s favour to cancel out the league leaders unbeaten start to the season.

Klopp said: “It’s not that I said in a meeting, ‘Boys, it would help a lot if you could win tonight so nobody speaks about Phil Coutinho anymore’.

“We like speaking about him. He’ll still be jumping in his new living room in Barcelona, happy about the win tonight.

“But it was important to show we can play without him and we did that. That’s a very important statement.”

Liverpool scored early in the first half as summer signing from Arsenal, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain fired an unstoppable shot into the far corner. Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and recently crowned African footballer of the year, Mohamed Salah later scored in the second half to put Liverpool ahead again after Leroy Sane had cancelled out Chamberlain’s goal late in the first half.

Bernardo Silva and Ikay Gundogan were on the scoresheet in the second half but it wasn’t enough to earn at least a draw for the Citizens.

Klopp in his post-match press conference said: “You need a really good football team to do that [to City] and, thank God, I have one. They tried really hard today.

“It was just a joy to watch, how both teams threw everything on the pitch. It is a nice commercial for Premier League football.

“The whole world was watching. If someone didn’t watch football until now, now they’ll see why people watch it all the time. I’m really happy about it.”

Klopp aims at top four finish

Ahead of their Boxing day clash with Welsh side, Swansea, Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp has conceded that a title triumph will be impossible for the Reds this season but a top-four finish wouldn’t be bad.

Seeing that 20 points separate the league leaders, Manchester City and Liverpool, the German tactician believes that they have all to play for in order to secure Champions League football next season.

Quoting Klopp while speaking with Sky Sports on Monday, he said “We have to qualify for the Champions League. We have to finish as high as possible, it looks like we could be second, third or fourth this year, that’s a fantastic situation. Not the dream but a fantastic situation.”

“That’s what we are working on and for this, we have to improve in all departments.”

“This year, I don’t think that anyone apart from Manchester City and maybe Manchester United are thinking too much about how they can win the league.”

“In a very difficult league, performance-wise we are really consistent so far. If we stay consistent and avoid our mistakes, mistakes like in the 3-3 draw with Arsenal, we will win much more games than we lose or draw.”

“As it was and so it will be against Swansea, we have to perform first of all and then we have to see how the other team can react.”

Swansea are positioned rock bottom on the league table and Klopp understands that his players have to be very careful as a result.

“They are under pressure and that’s clear because they are fighting to stay in the league, 100 percent, and that will not change before Boxing Day,”

“But we will be ready and we will perform, if possible, like against Arsenal but avoid the mistakes we made.

“I don’t really remember the game from last year, to be honest. I remember that we lost it. But that’s not the plan!” he concluded

Klopp Hopes Lallana Will Be Back Soon

We hope to have Lallana back soon – Klopp

England forward, Adam Lallana is expected to return to action soon having only featured for one minute for the Reds this season due to a stubborn thigh problem. Klopp is hopeful of having him back in the squad ahead of the frantic Christmas period.

Lallana, who was a regular in Klopp’s starting eleven in the German tactician early days at Liverpool has played only a minute of football when he came on as a late substitute against Chelsea last month.

Liverpool has a congested list of fixtures as they will be playing 7 games inside the next month, Klopp predicts a significant role for the former Southampton forward in the busy schedule. He, Lallana has been struggling with the thigh problem for some time although he had featured in training for over a month, he is still not back to full fitness.

“Adan is back in training completely normally” Klopp spoke with reporters ahead of their clash with West Brom on Wednesday.

“But, of course, he needs to build up [match fitness] again, That’s how it is.

“He is himself, he is good. He trains very well, we have to see what we do with him because we need him for the next few weeks, 100 percent.”

“We should not need him for tomorrow [Wednesday] but then, step by step, we need to see how we can bring him into shape. That’s it, we have to see, but he is in a good way”

Another concern for Klopp is defender, Alberto Moreno who got injured in their 7: nil thrashing of Spartak Moscow and he is set to be out for few weeks due to an ankle problem.

“He’s not ready [for West Brom], that’s for sure”

“We’ve sent him to different doctors to know a little bit more but it’s possible it’s not that long. It’s not decided” Klopp concluded.

Liverpool Will Worry Rivals

Liverpool attacking firepower will worry rivals – Klopp

Philippe Coutinho, who bagged a hat-trick for the first time in his Liverpool career alongside Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, and Mohamed Salah were all on target as the Reds dismantled Spartak Moscow in a 7-goal rampage. Hence, Liverpool Manager, Jurgen Klopp believes his side’s attacking brilliance will cause worry for their rivals in the Champions League.

In an electrifying display, Liverpool sealed their qualification to the round of 16 alongside all four other English clubs to make it five clubs from the same league in the knock-out stage for the first time in Champions League history. The victory also capped Klopp’s Men as the second highest scoring side in Champions’ League group stage and the highest scoring side from the premier league ever.

“If we perform like this tonight if we are that clinical, then yes we can [strike fear into opponents]” reiterated Klopp, whose team also put seven past Maribor. “But we had the same players before and they didn’t score and then it is not that we talk like this. That is not a criticism of the past. If we always perform like this then we are obviously a threat, 100 percent. And if you see how Dom Solanke performed at Stoke, how Dani Strurridge performed when he came on tonight – he could have scored two or three but he made a goal for Sadio – that’s good”

Liverpool’s victory ensured they topped their group and they are set to face either Basel, Bayern Munich, Porto, Juventus, Shakhtar Donetsk or holders Real Madrid in the next round as they qualified for the round of 16 for the first time since 2008-09

Klopp added “We knew if we win we would top the group so that’s not the biggest surprise but I think it’s strange this year in the group stage. There are a lot of really strong teams in second place. Obviously, all the teams in the last 16 are strong but this year is quite special. It’s not often you face Bayern Munich, Real Madrid or Juve if you win your group. Antonio Conte mentioned it yesterday – there are no easy opponents and I don’t think anyone is happy when they get us in the draw. We will not be happy when we see who we face in the next round, but we will be ready”.

The premier league has endured frustrating seasons in Europe but it’s a different story this year as Manchester City, Tottenham, Manchester United and Chelsea all join Liverpool in the round of 16. “I could not be less interested in the other teams, to be honest, but I think the reason [for five English teams in the draw] is quality”, Klopp concluded

“All the teams in the Champions League have strong squads. We will see where this leads to, but it’s a fact that English football is top quality. I don’t know why it didn’t happen in the last few years. I don’t think there are a lot of options for English teams in next round but it is good news for English football. There has been a lot of good news for English football recently with their youth teams winning World Cups.”

The Liverpool handler was in an extremely high spirit after the match but he must now begin to think about the derby clash with Everton on Sunday. The injury suffered by defender “Alberto Moreno” will be the only low point in a fascinating evening for Liverpool.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has shed the light on why Egyptian international Mohamed Salah was crucial in their 3-0 win on Wednesday against Stoke City.

Salah netted a brace as they downed Stoke in the English Premier League, but eyebrows were raised when the 25-year-old was benched for the start of the match.

However, Klopp’s decision turned out to be a clever move as he brought him on for the last 20 minutes to see his summer signing bag a brace.

“Thank you is all I said to Mohamed Salah, it is nice to come on in a situation like this,” Klopp said after the match.

“We have a lot of work to do, with Peter Crouch on the pitch it make it difficult and they are good on the ground but we have to keep fighting for the second ball.

“It was very deserved and we are very happy.”

On the other hand, Klopp added that he was impressed by the impact of the substitutes who were coming on in three degree weather.

“It is obviously good for us,” he told the official website. “It is difficult for all of the players coming on with this temperature.

“Last week we had a little bit of a problem [with the players that came on against Chelsea] and the next day more problems than the players that started, obviously sitting on the bench is not too nice, but today it worked really well. Two fantastic goals, to be honest.”

Senegal star Sadio Mane has rejected claims of a feud between himself and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

The Teranga Lions star was visibly upset at not receiving a starting role for the Reds in their 1-1 draw with Chelsea this past weekend.

Mane eventually appeared as a substitute and was seen having a heated discussion with Klopp after the match, sparking rumours of bad blood between the pair.

But the 25-year-old has explained that the heated words were down to a misunderstanding and there is “no problem”.

“He [Klopp] asked me to play on the right side and one time I tried to ask for the ball in the number nine position,” Mane told Sky Sports.

“Mo [Salah] was on my side and the coach was shouting ‘Sadio come onto the right side’.

“After the game I told the coach it was easier if you told Mo to come in because he was close to you.

“But it was friendly, it was not because I was unhappy or something else. There was no problem, I was just communicating and explaining that to him after the game.”

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp says Senegal coach Aliou Cisse has done a great job with his Senegalese side after reaching the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

The Lions of Teranga beat South Africa 2-0 on Friday in their penultimate Group D encounter as they secured a spot in Russia, their first in the World Cup since 2002.

The Lions of Teranga, however, will be without Sadio Mane in the return leg on Tuesday as the 25-year-old returned to England to assess his recurring injury.

“Aliou Cisse and his guys have done a fantastic job there and you can see them making a real impact in Russia come next summer. Personally speaking, I’m delighted for Sadio,” said Klopp to the club’s official website.

“Everyone in Liverpool knows his ability and the best players should be on the best stage – Sadio will now have this wonderful chance.

“Specifically on him returning to Melwood early to be with us; obviously it is a concern that the hamstring injury is again on the agenda and it will be critical for us to monitor and manage that in the coming days.

“At this stage we haven’t seen Sadio yet to properly assess the extent, but what is clear is that we will have to stay on top of this for the rest of the week and make sure we are careful in how we look after him.

“There has been really strong communication between ourselves and the Senegal team management to ensure the player is properly protected and looked after.

“We respect how important he is for Senegal and therefore it must always be the case that they get to make the decision when he is under their care.”

The Reds will host Southampton in the English Premier League on Saturday at Anfield Stadium and Klopp will hope to have Mane back for the tie.

Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Sadio Mane should be ready to face South Africa in crucial back-to-back 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers this month.

There were fears that the Senegal international would have to sit out of the upcoming home and away qualifiers after suffering a hamstring injury while on international duty with the Teranga Lions last month, but Mane has returned to training and could feature for his club this weekend.

Klopp stated at his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon that the forward could play 20-25 minutes off the bench at West Ham United this on Saturday.

“We’re trying to get in touch with the Senegal FA. Sadio is not injured anymore, but is he 100% fit? That’s different,” Klopp said.

“The ideal situation is that he doesn’t play the second game. If he can play for Senegal, I think he should – good for rhythm,” he concluded.

The 25-year-old has scored three goals in five Premier League games for the Merseyside club in a season that so far been disrupted by injury and suspension.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says Senegal’s Sadio Mane needs to rebuild his match fitness, hence his substitution in last night’s UEFA Champions League match.

The Reds were held to a 1-1 draw at Spartak Moscow, a result which leaves them two points off the pace of Group E leaders Sevilla.

Spartak claimed the lead midway through the first half when Fernando found the back of the but, but Liverpool equalised just past the half hour mark when Mane provided the assist for Philippe Coutinho to score.

Klopp’s team dominated the match in attacking terms, but they were without Mane for the last 20 minutes of regulation time after the coach withdrew him in favour of Daniel Sturridge.

The German explained that Mane – who has seen out a three-game domestic suspension for a red card he received against Manchester City earlier this month – was short of match fitness.

“Sadio Mane has spent too long without a game so he needs to adapt to such intensity,” Klopp explained. “That’s why we had to replace him.”

Mane’s domestic ban has run its course and the player will be available for selection this weekend when Liverpool face Newcastle United away from home.

Jurgen Klopp: Appealing Mane’s ban was a waste of time

Appealing against Sadio Mane’s three-match ban was a ‘waste of time’, according to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

The Senegal striker was given a straight red card this past weekend for a collision in which his right foot caught Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson in the face.

The Reds appealed against the length of the mandatory ban – three matches – but their pleas were rejected by the FA.

Mane is available for Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League clash against Sevilla tonight, but will miss their next three domestic matches: Premier League fixtures against Burnley and Leicester City, as well as an EFL Cup tie against the latter.

“I didn’t expect something different,” said the Liverpool manager. “It was really our duty to appeal. But it was a waste of time obviously.

“Our appeal was right because I could say if we would appealed the red card but we didn’t.

“We only appealed the length of the suspension. I never thought it would happen but only because I am used to it to things like this. There were a lot of situations which were similar.

“All the other players were lucky only Sadio was not lucky. And obviously Ederson was not lucky. It looks really awful and he was also lucky nothing more serious happened.”

The German manager emphasised that Mane did not deliberately set out to injure Ederson and felt he should have had a reduction on the ban.

“There was not even a percentage of Sadio which wanted to put the goalkeeper in danger. He wanted to get the ball and it’s important he does that in the next few games,” said Klopp.

“We cannot change this and it’s a sport where this happens. It’s like it is. I don’t blame the ref for the decision. If I saw the boy bleeding I would have made the same decision.

“But one game less would have been right, two and a half, not three and half.”

Mane and Salah “not at the limit” – Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool’s African attacking duo of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah can still improve their game, according to manager Jurgen Klopp.

The Senegalese has made a successful return from injury and looked in great shape during the Reds’ early games in the 2017/18 season, while the Egyptian is settling well following his big-money move from Roma.

Yet Klopp reckons both players are “not at the limit” of their capabilities and reckons their current front three of Mane, Salah and Brazilian Roberto Firmino can get even better following their superb showing this past midweek in the UEFA Champions League.

“Who was in doubt about Roberto [before Wednesday]?” he asked reporters at Melwood on Friday.

“Sorry, anyone who was lost my respect one-and-a-half years ago already. He is an unbelievable player.

“Working hard, everybody speaks about the passing game, but it’s the challenges he makes defensively, chasing them from behind, all over the pitch. They couldn’t get rid of him.

“That is the character you need to make the next step with a team which is already good.”

On Mane, Klopp added, “Yes, Sadio has made a big step. Being more clear in all the situations. Passing in the right moment, dribbling in the right moments, always being a goal threat,” the German conceded.

“He had a long break but he has started so well. Last season he didn’t start too badly either. At Arsenal he scored a nice goal.

“Sadio is not at the limit. Like all these boys, he can still improve.”

As for Salah, Klopp feels that the Egyptian is still adapting the physicality of the English game and the different demands of a new position.

“You can see Mo is on the way there. Not that used to it. Not using the body that much,” he explained.

“He’s a different player to Sadio, same speed, but a different player. He played a completely different position last season, he was the second striker at Roma.

“He is a winger—he can play this. He has defended 500 percent more already than he did in the whole of last season.”

Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp is happy with Senegal international Sadio Mane’s progress as he continues to recover from a knee operation.

The 25-year-old forward recently began light training with the English Premier League (EPL) giants after missing the end of the 2016/17 season.

The Reds will travel to Hong Kong, Asia for pre-season Premier League Asia Trophy and the club head coach Klopp provided an update regarding the player.

“He is really, really good. He is close; he is closing on coming back to team training,” Klopp told the club’s official website.

“In this moment, we think it will be when we are in Asia, so then it makes no sense to take him to Asia because he needs to then do the first steps in kind of team training.

“We will see how we can do it; maybe [some of] the U23s will be here, so when he can start this [training] then we can use this opportunity, but we have to wait,” he added.

“On Tuesday morning he was part of the running, so he is first-team training if you want and that looked really good.

“I think he is getting better, but it is how it is after a long time – you need to build a little bit of muscle again in the quad and thigh, which is important,” he continued.

“There is no risk with him because he is a naturally fit boy and in the moment when he can start to be a real part of the sessions.

“He will then immediately be fit again. We have not all the time in the world, but we have time and we will use it.”
