Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela has dropped a hint that goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo could man the goalposts when they take on Bidvest Wits in the Telkom Knockout semifinals this weekend.
The highly anticipated clash is set for this Saturday at Bidvest Stadium and Komphela says Khuzwayo could start if Itumeleng Khune arrives back from Senegal in a poor shape.
Khune travelled with Bafana Bafana to Dakar as they wrapped up their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday with a 2-1 loss.
The coach is concerned with Khune who played with a protective face mask on Friday after suffering a facial injury against Chippa United in the TKO quarterfinals.
Apart from ‘Itu’, Amakhosi have Siphiwe Tshabalala and Mulomowandau Mathoho who were also part of Stuart Baxter Bafana squad and Komphela will decide on using them.
“They are all ready. Brilliant is ready. Brilliant has been training well. Bruce Bvuma is also there‚” Komphela said to the media.
“The thing we can be happy about is that ‘Itu’ played without a mask (on Tuesday).
“And the only thing that we would be worried about‚ even for ‘Shabba’ (Tshabalala) and ‘Tower’ (Mathoho)‚ is that if given an opportunity to play on Saturday‚ would they have recovered?
“Because it’s killing to travel throughout Africa. But there’s nothing you can do about it.”
Komphela will want to lift the TKO Cup and bring his first trophy to Naturena after failing to do so in his first two seasons with the Soweto giants.
