Manchester City are reportedly battling it out against Arsenal for the signature of Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez.

The Algerian has been a subject of speculation in recent times, with more clubs linked with the left-footed winger.

Media reports in Spain suggest that City manager, Pep Guardiola is reportedly an admirer of the tricky midfielder and is hopeful of adding more attacking talent to his squad.

Meanwhile, Mahrez has also been linked with moves to the Gunners and Chelsea, but insists he is ‘settled’ at King Power Stadium, despite an attempt to leave in the last transfer window.

To add fuel to the speculation, Guardiola was spotted chatting with the Desert Foxes international at the end of the Blues’ 2-0 victory over Leicester last weekend.

“Everyone knows that I had desires to leave, except that it did not happen. I do not want to think of the transfer window at the moment. We still have 12 games to play until January, so if I thought of the transfer window now, I will not play football anymore,” Mahrez recently told the Daily Star.

With his future remaining unclear, will Mahrez be tempted to join the title changing City and possibly add to his EPL gold medal?

Latest media reports in the United Kingdom reveal that Algeria and Leicester City winger, Riyad Mahrez is still eyeing a move away from the Foxes.

The Desert warriors international has been linked with a transfer from the King Power Stadium for some time and he is now linked with Tottenham Hotspur.

A report carried by the Daily Star suggests that the Lily Whites are set to benefit from bringing the Algerian in.

Mahrez has been in good form at Leicester this term, with the winger contributing five assists and scoring two goals in 11 English Premier League appearances.

Morever, the arrival of new coach Claude Puel seems to have fuelled something in as far as Mahrez’s performance is concerned.

The England-based website adds that manager Mauricio Pochettino is convinced that the 26-year-old could add value in his attacking options.

City, though, will be reluctant to lose one of their most-prized assets, but the emergence of Demarai Gray means that the blow may now not be quite as hard to take as it once would have been.

Although Spurs reportedly wanted to sign Mahrez in the English summer, they were unable to get a deal and could be tempted to test the water in January.

Botswana star Lesego Galenamotlhale has explained why his move to Jwaneng Galaxy failed to materialize.

The 31-year-old midfielder became a free agent after parting ways with Botswana giants Mochudi Centre Chiefs at the end of the 2016/17 campaign.

Jwaneng Galaxy have been keen to sign the hard-working central midfielder, who won the 2014/15 BTC Premiership title with Chiefs.

“To be honest I thought it was a done deal at Jwaneng Galaxy, but something cropped up,” Galenamotlhale told Botswana Football.

“It made it difficult for me to sign and like I said am in no rush to sign with any team.

Galenamotlhale was part of the Botswana squad that participated in the 2017 COSAFA Cup in North West, South Africa last month.

“Let me take my time and think wisely and I will make a decision which I will communicate,” he added.

“There are offers, but sometimes it is very difficult to trust some of the club administrators.”

Prior to joining Chiefs, the 2014/15 BTC Premiership Player of the Season turned out for North Stars FC and Mokgosi Young Fighters.

Wednesday Aug 09, 2017. 12:00

Information coming from Spain is that Barcelona are considering triggering the €40m release clause for Cote d’Ivoire and Nice midfielder Jean Seri.

Reports reveal that the Blaugrana have ‘accelerated’ their pursuit of the 26-year-old this week and are confident of reaching a deal.

L’Equipe has it that the Spanish La Liga giants are said to have made an initial approach of €30m and are confident that whilst this will likely be rejected, the two clubs can find a compromise.

According to the report, a Spanish publication, El Mundo Deportivo previously nicknamed Seri as ‘the African Xavi’.

Seri has also made more passes than any of his Nice teammates (2,733), and created the most chances (74) as well as providing the most through balls (32).

Caps United’s Ronald Chitiyo set to join Tunisia’s Sfaxien – 2017 CAF Confederation Cup

Wednesday Aug 02, 2017. 11:00

Reports in Zimbabwe reval that Caps United striker Ronald Chitiyo is set to join Tunisian giants CS Sfaxien, but is just waiting for medicals.

The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions’ CEO Cuthbert Chitima said Chitiyo’s deal was as good as done.

It is reported that the Tunisian side has sent another air ticket for Chitiyo to travel to Tunisia on Saturday, August 5.

The player impressed Sfaxien’s technical team during their CAF Champions League, Group B showdown against Al Ahli Tripoli of Libya at the Stade Taieb Mhiri in Sfax.

BOTSWANA’S GU EYE SUCCESSFUL SEASON

Although United lost 4-2, Chitiyo’s contribution saw him netting what was seen as one of the best goals in the tournament and Sfaxien were convinced he was the kind of player they were scouting for.

“His (Chitiyo’s) deal is almost done, as he is now waiting for medicals. He was supposed to have gone there last week on Thursday, but the airline he was supposed to use demanded that he obtains a visa before he travels,” said Chitima to the News day website.

“But when we went there for our African Champions League match against Al Ahly Tripoli, we got our visas at the airport in Tunisia. The club had suggested that he travels to Tunisia and obtain his visa on entry.

“So what is just left are those papers for the deal to be finalised. The club was travelling and wanted him to link up with others before the weekend, but due to the delays they said he could come when the rest of the squad has returned to their base.”

Uganda’s Kampala Capital City Authority have moved level at the top of Group A in the CAF Confederation Cup after defeating Rivers United 2-1 at the Phillip Omondi Stadium on Saturday.

KCCA have joined FUS Rabat (who defeated Club Africain 2-1 last night) on six points. The Moroccans are ranked ahead of the Ugandans on head-to-head results after defeating them 3-0 at the start of the group phase. All six matches in Group A have produced home victories.

Gabon star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexis Sanchez would be welcome additions to Paris Saint-Germain’s squad, according to Edinson Cavani.

Aubameyang and Sanchez are two of the most sought-after attacking players ahead of the European summer, with speculation over their futures playing out in media across the continent.

PSG are usually linked to big-name players because of their spending power and have been mentioned as a possible destination for Aubameyang in the past.

Though the arrival of either the Gabonese player or Sanchez would present great competition within the squad for Cavani, he insists that they would be welcomed with open arms at the Ligue 1 club.

When asked about Sanchez and Aubameyang, Cavani told Canal Football Club: “If they come, they are welcome.

“We always hope that new players complete the team with their qualities.

“As for what the club is missing, I will never tell you. For me, my team-mates are the best.”

PSG have endured a difficult season by their high standards and look set to miss out in the Ligue 1 title to Monaco.
