“I received an offer to play a friendly against the USA in January and refused to stop the league for a week and to play without the players abroad.

“I told the technical staff that it’s better to play friendlies with all the players especially since there are priorities including finishing the league season.

“The league this season has seen many strong games and comparable levels between the teams and we hope to produce new talents.”

On the other hand, the EFA boss adds that he’s not concerned with the results of the World Cup draw as Egypt will be placed in Pot 3.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) have announced that their final 2018 World Cup qualifier against Egypt on November 12 has been moved to a new venue.

The final Group E match – which is a dead rubber as the Pharaohs have already secured their berth at Russia 2018 – was originally set to be held at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

It has now been shifted to the Cape Coast Sports Stadium, with the GFA opting to move away from the Kumasi venue where the Black Stars were booed by home fans after being held 1-1 by Congo in early September.

The Cape Coast Stadium was the primary venue for the recent WAFU Cup of Nations, with the home side receiving strong support as they powered to the regional title.

It is hoped that the Black Stars will receive similarly strong support in a match which has nothing at stake other than a chance to move up the FIFA world rankings.

The decision also suits Egypt, as they will now have no more than a two-hour bus drive from the capital Accra to the match venue.

The Egyptian Football Association confirmed the receipt of an official letter from their Ghanaian counterparts informing them of the venue change.

“Ghana changed the venue for technical reasons,” the EFA said in a statement.

Zambian Division One League side, Kitwe United have lodged a complaint to the Football Association of Zambia over poor officiating.

The protest comes after United’s 1-0 loss last Saturday against Kansanshi Dynamos in Solwezi.

Kansanshi booted Kitwe from the top of the FAZ Division 1, Zone 2 log table after a first half penalty awarded by Chingola referee Louis Macha gifted them the three points.

Kansanshi have 55 points, two above Kitwe after 27 matches and Kitwe boss Gabriel Akayombokwa said the Buchi Boys were aggrieved by the manner in which the penalty was awarded.

“We have lodged a complaint to FAZ over poor officiating. We are also aware that the assistant referee works for Kansanshi Mines,” Akayombokwa said.

There are only three games left to play before the Zone Two season closes as FAZ is yet to make a decision on the complaint.

South African FA president Jordaan accused of rape

South African Football Association (SAFA) president Danny Jordaan has been accused of rape.

Singer Jennifer Ferguson, who is a former African National Congress (ANC) MP, has disclosed that Jordaan raped her in a hotel nearly 24 years ago.

Ferguson finally found the courage to name and shame her alleged abuser when speaking to Talk Radio 702 on Thursday.

“I, as a woman who am empowered, who has been gifted and positioned with resources, if I found it impossible to report or speak out and it’s taken me this long, think of people that don’t have that,” Ferguson said.

According to The Citizen, she stated that it had taken her this long to share the story of her sexual assault because she believed she couldn’t prove it to anyone.

This was because Ferguson bathed straight after the incident, and that made it even more difficult to prove the rape had taken place.

“I was completely in shock. There is a voiceless constituency that I feel the story has to resonate with. It’s not a vendetta, sort of getting back at Danny, that is not my interest,” she continued.

“My decision is to speak truth in order to heal and to go through processes of forgiveness. It’s nothing as hard as keeping it.”

She added that her greatest hope was that her example would help others speak out, and her story would open a very necessary conversation around sexual assault.

Jordaan, 66, has not responded to Ferguson’s claim.

Ugandan FA turn to Zambian legend to help find a coach – 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers – Africa

Phumzile Ngcatshe

Thursday Oct 19, 2017. 12:30

The Federation of Ugandan Football Associations has roped in Zambian football legend Kalusha Bwalya in an aim to source a suitable candidate for the Cranes coaching job.

With interim coach Moses Basena’s mandate ending after the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers final game against Congo early next month, FUFA has opened a global search for a permanent coach that will take the Cranes to another level.

After the application process between October 23-29, Bwalya’s technical panel that also includes Watson and Asuma Lubowa (FUFA Technical Committee) among others, they will come up with a final list of nominees.

The nominees will be discussed between the federation and government before the executive committee makes the final pronouncement on November 15.

“The Fufa Emergency Committee took a decision to open up the job vacancy of Cranes and the terms of reference also include coaching the U-23 side (Kobs),” CEO Edgar Watson said.

“Our expectations are that the applicants should have the experience and top most qualifications in Africa or its equivalent to handle the job and that is the main duty of the panel.

“He (Bwalya) is one unique African with many attributes. He has been head CAF Technical Committee, a legendary footballer, coached national team, a president of a federation (Zambia) and is neutral in terms of the Ugandan football status.

“His experience on the globe will give us that quality we need in determining our next coach.”

Ghana FA Spokesman rules out working for CAF

Phumzile Ngcatshe

Monday Oct 16, 2017. 17:30

Ghana Football Association communication director Ibrahim Saanie Darra has given the clearest indication that he has no plans to join the seemingly bandwagon of football administrators who are receiving appointments with the Confederation of African Football.

GFA vice president, George Afriyie was recently appointed to serve on the Organizing Committee of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Afriyie joins South Africa FA chief Danny Jordaan, as well as Zimbabwe FA president Phillip Chiyangwa in organizing subsequent AFCON tournaments for the next four years.

Afryie’s new post sees him team up with his boss, President Kwesi Nyantakyi who serves as the second most powerful mind at CAF after president, Ahmad Ahmad.

Speaking on Class FM sports show, Sports World, Darra said: “I am not interested in leaving Ghana. I have already worked two months staying abroad and don’t plan on leaving Ghana to work abroad.”

“Those people who questioned the relevance of president Kwesi Nyantakyi’s appointment onto CAF and FIFA executive role – George Afriyie’s appointment onto the AFCON committee is the first [of many to come] that you will hear.

“There are many more to come – former footballers and all will get a place at the highest table of African football decision table.”

FAF TO PUSH FOR ALCARAZ DISMISSAL BEFORE NIGERIA MATCH reports that the coach, who has a win record of one in four games since taking over from George Leekens, has already returned back to Spain.

Ghana FA launch protest against Daniel Bennett – 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers

Staff Reporter

Sunday Oct 08, 2017. 17:00

Ghana have taken steps in trying to force a replay of their 2018 FIFA World Cup Group E qualifier against Uganda in Kampala, which ended in a goalless stalemate.

The match on Saturday afternoon was overshadowed by several refereeing decisions, including what the Black Stars have deemed a ‘perfect goal’ with the final kick of the game.

As a result, they have launched a protest to the world football governing body, asking that FIFA look into the performance of South African referee Daniel Bennett and his fellow match officials.

The Ghana FA launched an official statement via their official Twitter page on Saturday evening, across a series of seven tweets:

“Ghana FA lodges FIFA protests over referee in World Cup qualifier in Uganda.

“GFA lodged a protest with FIFA over the performance of ref D. Bennett & his assistants E. Adelaide & S.Marie during the 2018 WCQ v Uganda.

“The GFA filed the protest to FIFA, immediately after the match at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala.

“Mr Bennett and assistants denied Ghana a perfect goal in the 93rd minute with television replays showing that it was a perfect goal.

“The referee also denied Ghana a penalty earlier in the second-half when Ghana midfielder Frank Acheampong was brought down in the box.

“These and several other decisions by the match officials have left the GFA with no option than to ask FIFA to examine their performances.

“The GFA respectfully asked FIFA to consider the possibility of a replay in order to serve the ends of justice without fear or favour,” the sequence of tweets concluded.

Ex-Zimbabwean FA boss calls for probe on Chiyangwa – African Football

Ex-Zimbabwean FA boss calls for probe on Chiyangwa

Phillip Chiyangwa, ZIFA and COSAFA President

Phumzile Ngcatshe

Thursday Sep 14, 2017. 12:30

Ex-Zimbabwean Football Association’s vice-president, Ndumiso Gumede says the Sports and Recreation Commission must probe ZIFA boss Philip Chiyangwa.

The call comes after Chiyangwa’s alleged involvement in the decision to revoke Dynamos striker, Christian Ntouba’s red card.

Ntouba was red carded against Highlanders at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday and Gumede says it’s high time the SRC stopped Chiyangwa.

The Cameroonian was dismissed by referee Arnold Ncube in the 87th minute for head-butting Highlanders defender Peter Muduhwa.

However, Gumede, who retired from football last year, said it was improper to reverse the referee’s decision instead of dealing with the match official if there was indeed any complaint and if the referee’s committee felt he had erred.

“Maybe there is a new law that we don’t know and I am not familiar with. I was chairman of that committee from 2010 to 2014 and during my time the law said you cannot rule against the referee,” Gumede said to the News Day.

“The best you can do is to deal with the referee and have him suspended, but you cannot reverse his decision or change the scoreline.

“If the club (Dynamos) did not complain, what is the decision based on? This must be the time that the SRC must come in and say you (Chiyangwa) are not following the laws.”

It is reported that the decision to rescind Ntouba’s red card was done within 24 hours after the match that was played on Sunday.

The website has it that a letter written by Dynamos secretary-general Webster Marecherera dated Monday and addressed to Chiyangwa, appears to be the basis of the nullification of the red card.

South African FA president says they will play against Senegal – 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers

South African FA president says they will play against Senegal

SAFA President, DR Danny Jordaan

Phumzile Ngcatshe

Wednesday Sep 13, 2017. 11:30

Just after FIFA ordered the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier between South Africa and Senegal be replayed, the South African Football Association wanted to contest the decision.

However, in a meeting on Monday, SAFA decided to oblige with the ruling and have the match replayed based on ethical and moral grounds.

SAFA president Danny Jordaan spoke to the media on Tuesday at the OR Tambo International Airport as he announced their decision on the matter.

He said they will not contest FIFA’s decision to replay the 2018 Soccer World Cup qualifier between Bafana Bafana and the Teranga Lions if there is evidence of match manipulation.

“Our position is clear on the issue of match fixing and manipulation. We cannot benefit from such and take the points”, Jordaan told reporters.

“We agree with FIFA that the match should be replayed. We don’t support match-fixing. We want that to be clear.

“This is a moral and ethical matter. We asked “If this match was manipulated, do you as SAFA want those points?.”

Bafana claimed a 2-1 win in Polokwane in November 2016 after Ghanaian referee, Joseph Lamptey handed the South Africans a penalty, which was protested by the Senegalese FA.

Lamptey has since been banned from the game for life for match manipulation and Bafana are now left with one point at the bottom of Group D.
