Uganda will chase their second win over Egypt as they meet in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Alexandria on Tuesday.

The Cranes are fresh from a hard fought 1-0 win over the Pharaohs at home last Thursday and a win away will boost their chances of making it to Russia.

Under the guidance of coach Moses Basena, Uganda now occupy the top spot in Group E with seven points from three matches so far.

Although a win will not come easy in Alexandria, a win will see them consolidating their spot with 10 points before the final round of matches in November.

On the other hand, the Pharaohs are chasing their first appearance at the global tournament since 1990 and a defeat at home could be a huge blow.

Coach Hector Cuper’s men sit at number two in the group with six points and will be gunning to reclaim their top spot in the group.

Although they will be without their experienced goalkeeper in Essam El-Hadary through an injury, they are favourites to rise to the occasion at home.

“The qualifiers are not over yet, we still have nine points to fight for,” said Cuper.

“We tried more than one formation and fielded many attackers, but we still could not get a better result.”

Alexandria’s Borg El-Arab Stadium will be the venue for the match, getting underway at 20:00 (CAT) on Tuesday, September 5.

Ajax Cape Town defender Roscoe Pietersen has spoken out about his joy in being called up for National Team Duty.

Pietersen, 28, was on Tuesday summoned by the South African Football Association (SAFA), with the former Matsatsantsa man called in as defensive cover for Bafana Bafana’s 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier against Zambia this weekend.

South Africa take on Chipolopolo in a Southern Zone second-leg qualifier in Ndola, with the visitors having it all to do following a 2-2 draw in East London last weekend.

BAXTER: WHY SA CAN BEAT CHIPOLOPOLO IN ZAMBIA

For Pietersen, who will miss the Urban Warriors first three games due to suspension, the call-up comes shortly after he tied the knot, with the defender now in line to make his Bafana Bafana debut this weekend… he couldn’t be more pleased:

“I am still in shock, it is an honour to be called up to the National Team,” Pietersen said. “The red card in the last game of last season…a blessing in disguise looking back right now.

“Yes , I am looking forward to the trip, I have never been to Zambia before – no other African country for that matter – yes I know the first game ended in a 2-2 draw so it will be a difficult task away from home, but I am sure the guys will be up for it. The heart and fight will be there.

Pietersen continued: “Two very big weeks for me, if I could get married every week and get a Bafana Bafana call-up every international break that would be awesome, but we only get married once.

“Hopefully, though, this won’t be my last National Team call-up.”
