Eric Bailly may have a tough time getting back into Manchester United’s starting XI following the impressive form shown by rival and teammate Victor Lindelof.

Though the Swedish defender has taken his time to settle at Old Trafford following a big-money move from Benfica in the European summer, he has impressed in United’s last two matches and may have jumped ahead in the pecking order for central defenders.

The Swede was composed in the 1-0 and 4-2 wins over Brighton and Watford respectively and may have done enough to claim a starting place for the big game away to Arsenal tomorrow evening.

Bailly also faces competition from the return of Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones from injury, though Jose Mourinho’s use of a back three in the win at Vicarage Road in midweek means an abundance of centre-backs is needed.

The Ivorian remains one of the Red Devils’ best ‘natural’ defenders and will surely see plenty of action, especially over the busy upcoming festive season, when games come thick and fast and squad rotation becomes more prevalent.

If Bailly doesn’t make the cut for the match at Emirates Stadium tomorrow, he is at least likely to see action in next week’s UEFA Champions League match at home to CSKA Moscow, where United will be looking to confirm their place in the last 16.

Kgotso Moleko looks set to leave Kaizer Chiefs at the end of the 2017-18 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season, according to reports.

South African publication Phakaaathi report that the Amakhosi are set to release the 28-year-old at the end of the current campaign, a year before his contract is set to run it’s course.

Moleko, who joined the Glamour Boys from Bloemfontein Celtic in 2012, is currently out of action having picked up a knee injury in the Macufe Cup.

The 28-year-old featured just seven times in all competitions for Amakhosi last season, having struggled to pen down a regular starting spot.

Eric Bailly will look to shrug off the disappointment of Ivory Coast’s failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup when he features for Manchester United this weekend.

Bailly was suspended for the Elephants’ 2-0 loss to Morocco last weekend which saw the North Africans secure top spot in the group and return to the World Cup for the first time since 1998.

Nonetheless, the 23-year-old took to his Facebook page to express his pain and apologise to the Ivorian faithful.

“Bad time for our national team I’m a part of. Our apologies for the bad performance of the team during our last games, for me the important was neither the game against Mali nor against Morocco, but rather our bad results in official games since the beginning of the year,” wrote Bailly.

The best way for the centre-back to put the Elephants’ failure behind him is to perform strongly at club level.

Bailly will be fresh and rested for Manchester United’s upcoming matches this weekend and next midweek.

The Red Devils will first host Newcastle United for a high-profile Premier League clash on Saturday evening, followed by a trip to Basel next Wednesday in which they will look to secure progression into the UEFA Champions League knockout stage.

SuperSport United defender Tefu Mashamaite has revealed his ambition when it comes to the CAF Confederation Cup competition.

The former Kaizer Chiefs and Bidvest Wits defender says lifting the continental trophy will be a huge achievement and says he’s looking forward to the final.

Under the guidance of coach Eric Tinkler, the Tshwane giants are set to face Congo’s TP Mazembe on Sunday in the first leg of the final.

With Morgan Gould suspended for the opening leg, ‘Masha’ will lead the club from the back together with Clayton Daniels.

“As an individual I think it will be the highest achievement. I have never been to the level where we are at with SuperSport, a continental final,” said Mashamaite to the media.

“It’s a big one. I have been with Bafana Bafana before, but I have never been to this stage, so it’s something to look forward to, history in the making.

“It’s been a great journey, starting in Madagascar right up to here. So we need to take from the confidence we have built.

“Experience is a factor. Experience is something you can add onto your game, but first you have to be part of the team.

“You have to be positive and be present on the day. We are looking forward to it. It’s another final, so we have to be positive.”

Eric Bailly and Manchester United will be given a stern test of their mettle this weekend when they face Premier League champions Chelsea.

The Blues will host the Red Devils at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening, kick-off at 18h30 CAT.

Bailly has returned to the United starting XI this past week after a lengthy absence, helping the team record wins over Tottenham Hotspur and Benfica in the Premier League and Champions League respectively.

The presence of the Elephants defender has helped stabilise the backline, with his pace and anticipation particularly prevalent.

Yet the long spell out of the team has had its effects on Bailly’s fitness, with the 23-year-old notably struggling with fatigue in the midweek clash against Benfica.

He will have had almost four days of rest before the Chelsea match and, barring any injuries picked up in training, is likely to start on Sunday evening.

United defeated Chelsea 2-0 when the teams last met back in April, but they have a poor record at Stamford Bridge in recent years, failing to win an away league clash against the Blues since October 2012.

Eric Bailly will look to return to Manchester United’s starting XI for tomorrow’s high-profile clash at home to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

The Ivory Coast defender has not featured for the Red Devils since their 4-1 win over CSKA Moscow in the UEFA Champions League exactly a month ago today.

Following that match – which was Bailly’s UCL debut – he was rested for the home win over Crystal Palace on September 30, and then jetted off for international duty with the Ivory Coast.

The 23-year-old picked up an injury while featuring for the Elephants and has been out of commission ever since.

United have not fared particularly well in his absence, failing to win either of their two Premier League matches in the period (0-0 v Liverpool and 1-2 v Huddersfield Town).

However, Bailly returned to training this week and is in line to start against Spurs in tomorrow’s early-afternoon kick-off at Old Trafford.

It’s a key match for the Red Devils, who need a powerful performance (and a win) to convince their critics that they can challenge rivals Manchester City for the Premier League title.

Bailly was in good spirits this week upon returning to training, and posted this funny entry in his official Twitter page:

FIFA have ordered Egyptian Premier League side Zamalek to pay late dues to former player Ricardo Alves Fernandes before October 27 or face the consequences.

Media reports in Egypt reveal that FIFA wrote a letter to the Egyptian Football Association that Zamalek may face fines, deduction of points in the league or relegation to a lower league if they failed to pay Ricardo’s outstanding wages before the deadline.

The Brazilian defender played for the White Knights between 2008 and 2009, scoring one goal in six league games.

WANYAMA TARGETS LIVERPOOL RETURN

“Zamalek have not acted in accordance with the Arbitral Award passed by the court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on 20 September 2016,” the letter sent from FIFA to the EFA read.

“This would appear to be a violation of Article 64 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, and as such it will be the subject of an investigation by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee.

“We are therefore opening disciplinary proceedings against the club Zamalek FC in respect of a violation of article 64 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code…Disciplinary measures (fine, deduction of points, relegation to a lower league) may be imposed on the club.”

Zamalek will have to fork out $63 220 and EGP 11 400 in outstanding wages plus five percent interest.

Ajax Cape Town have signed Burkina Faso national Soumaila Ouattara.

The Urban Warriors are set to officially unveil their new singing this weekend, with the 22-year-old having joined the club following a successful trial period.

Rivaldo Coetzee’s move to Mamelodi Sundowns has left a void in defence, prompting the signing of Mario Booysen and now Ouattara who head coach Stanley Menzo has compared to Tottenham Hotspur new man, Davinson Sánchez.

YAYA TOURE AT LOGGERHEADS WITH PEP

“Ouattara was offered to us by the agent of [Lassina] Traore, and he was here on trial,” said Menzo.

“And after just one training match, everyone was saying, ‘Wow, that’s a good player, a good defender’. He’s a right-footed defender, strong, and coming from Burkina Faso, he’s probably not had, with all due respect, the best education there, and at this level, there is always room to improve.

“He is someone who will become a better player. When the scouts and I saw him, we immediately thought of [Colombian international] Sanchez at Ajax Amsterdam [now with Spurs] – he has the same physique, so that’s the kind of player he is.”

Reports in Zimbabwe reveal that Caps United defender Ronald Pfumbidzai has impressed South African Premier Soccer League side Bloemfontein Celtic.

Pfumbidzai is reported to have impressed the Siwelele technical team after undergoing trials in an aim to make a move to the Absa Premiership.

It is revealed that the player spent a week at the club where he was assessed after attracting interest during United’s campaign in the CAF Champions League.

United managed to reach the group phase for the first time in their history.

YANDA PATOSI READY FOR PSL DEBUT

However, Pfumbidzai returned home on Thursday amid reports that he had impressed and negotiations were expected to start soon with his club.

Although CEO Cuthbert Chitima said they were still waiting for feedback from Celtic, it is understood the South African club was satisfied with the player and want to open talks.

“He (Pfumbidzai) did very well during his trials. The club was satisfied and should be opening negotiations with Caps United soon. Let’s just wait and see what transpires,” a source to the News day website said.

Furthermore, United are set to lose more players, with Ronald Chitiyo having agreed terms with Tunisian club CS Sfaxien, while Abbas Amidu could also be on his way out of the club.

Chitiyo is expected to travel to Tunisia on Saturday where he attracted the North Africans’ interest when he played against Al Ahli Tripoli of Libya at the Stade Taieb Mhiri in Sfax.
