Nigerian senior team coach Gernot Rohr has revealed how he avoided becoming a victim of the Nigerian media.

He says media pressure is intense in the country, revealing he was crucified by the media when he first took over as the Super Eagles coach over a year ago.

Speaking to L’equipe, the Franco-German mentor revealed he initially struggled to keep up with the demands of the Nigerian media.

However, he said he was able to conquer the fear and he now has a healthy relationship with the members of the fourth estate.

”I’m the boss, I have full powers because I won straight away, so my hands became free,” he said.

”But the media pressure is immense in Nigeria. The press are ever present. At first I was careful not to fall into one of the cracks of the media but later I had no such problem.”

Rohr will lead his men to their final Group B match of the qualifiers against Algeria before facing Argentina in Russia in an international friendly next month.

Striker Raphael Dwamena will play no part in Ghana’s 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Congo after withdrawing from their squad.

The FC Zurich player has opted to stay in Switzerland to undergo tests, having failed a medical assessment with Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion last week.

Dwamena reportedly failed the medical with the Seagulls due to an issue with his heart, and he is seeking a second opinion on his health status.

A statement on the Ghana FA website read: “Raphael Dwamena pulls out of Ghana squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Congo. He is undergoing further medical tests in Switzerland.”

The Black Stars have called up Red Star Belgrade striker Richmond Boakye as a replacement.

Coach James Kwesi Appiah is also sweating on the fitness of defender John Boye, who will undergo tests on his thigh injury.

Ghana will host Congo in the teams’ first Group E match in Kumasi on Friday night, with the return set for Brazzaville next week Tuesday.
