Arsenal are reportedly closing in on the appointment of the scout who brought Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Borussia Dortmund.

BVB’s Sven Mislintat is expected to be unveiled as a Gunners recruit in the coming days, with the English club having to pay a hefty compensation to their German counterparts.

Mislintat is in line to replace Steve Rowley, who has served as Arsenal‘s head of recruitment since 1996 and set to leave the club at the end of the 2017/18 season.

Mislintat is credited with discovering stars such as Aubameyang, who was the Bundesliga’s top scorer last season and is widely regarded as one of the most dangerous forwards in European football.

The likes of Robert Lewandowski, USA international Christian Pulisic and Ousmane Dembele, who left Dortmund to join Barcelona over the summer in a deal worth £135.5m, are also ‘finds’ of Mislintat.

Everton caretaker manager David Unsworth confirmed the club are close to finalising a fresh deal for Gueye.

“I believe we are very close which is fantastic news for Everton,” Unsworth said on Express.

“He’s been great over the period of time. I have seen his performances,” he continued.

Transfer window should close long before internationals – Wilmots – 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers – Africa

by
Bertin Basson

Wednesday Aug 30, 2017. 21:00

Marc Wilmots, the coach of the Ivory Coast national team, says the transfer window should close well before any international matches to ensure that there are no selection issues.

The Belgian tactician is busy preparing his Elephants side for crucial back-to-back 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Gabon on September 2 and 5.

Yet he is still without a key player in the shape of defender Simon Deli, who is busy trying to complete a pending transfer from Czech club Slavia Prague.

“I am in constant contact with the players who have to stay in their club, since Simon Deli has not received permission from Slavia Prague to join us,” Wilmots is quoted by Linfodrome.

“So this is a situation that is still pending. I find it very unfortunate that the transfers continue until 31 August.

“At the mental level of the players, these are contracts for their life from time to time. And it will be Thursday at midnight that everything will be decided. We have a match two days later.

“To put all this in place, I preferred that everything be settled before we start the national teams.

“I speak on behalf of all managers, not just for me, because the problem is everywhere. We have to think about this problem at FIFA level.”

All matches will take place at the James Motlatsi Stadium in Orkney, South Africa on Saturday, 15 July 2017.
