Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has singled out Brian Idowu and Francis Uzoho for special praise after his side defeated Argentina 4-2 in a friendly in Krasnodar on Tuesday evening.

The Super Eagles found themselves 2-0 down to ‘La Albiceleste’, but a brace from Alex Iwobi and goals from Kelechi Iheanacho and Idowu saw them claim an impressive victory.

Idowu and Uzoho were half-time substitutes, replacing Ola Aina and Daniel Akpeyi respectively to make their debuts for the senior national team.

“Brian is a team newcomer, but he’s not the only one. We have three new players, and I would like to highlight our 19-year-old goalkeeper Uzoho. He played well,” Rohr said at the press conference attended by Sport Express Russia.

“Such matches are specially designed so that we can evaluate new players in the team. We have three players who have a special relationship with Russia. There’s also Ahmed Musa and the captain of the team, he has a connection here through the family.

“Brian played well, scored a goal. His prospects depend on how he will perform at the club. His debut, I’m happy.

“On his position we have other options, so who will play better will be in the team.”

Brian McBride: Salah-Firmino not in sync just yet – 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers – Africa

Egyptian star Mohamed Salah is yet to be fully in sync with Roberto Firmino at Liverpool, according to former Fulham and USA national team striker Brian McBride.

Salah scored on his Premier League debut for the Reds last weekend and was impressive in their win over German side Hoffenheim in the UEFA Champions League this midweek.

However, the Pharaohs man still has some work to do to become a slick part of manager Jurgen Klopp’s system.

“I think Salah, he hasn’t understood that connection with Firmino just yet,” McBride told ESPN.

“However, as soon as that comes along, I think you are going to see a lot more trouble for other teams from the right side for Liverpool.”

Salah will look to feature strongly for the Reds again this weekend when they face Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

Maritzburg United have claimed that their chairman, Mr Farook Kadodia, was misinterpreted when asked about the whereabouts of defender Brian Onyango.

KickOff.com on Monday reported that the Kenya international had been absent from pre-season training, with Kadodia reportedly telling the publication to question Mamelodi Sundowns regarding the players failure to pitch.

The article followed news that Rivaldo Coetzee of Ajax Cape Town has gone AWOL with the Bafana Bafana defender having also attracted strong interest from the Brazilians.

The Team of Choice, though, took to their social media platforms to deny these claims with the club stating that Onyango was back in Kenya sorting out some paperwork.

The following statement was posted on the club’s Facebook page:

We refer to the story that appeared in Kickoff yesterday the 24th of July 2017 titled: Downs target AWOL at Maritzburg.

The story as presented misrepresents the brief discussion with the journalist when he asked the Chairman why Brian was not with the team at Richards Bay.

He put it to the Chairman that the players he mentioned from other clubs including Brian, were AWOL because they wanted to go to Sundowns, to which the Chairman simply replied “Then you must ask Sundowns”.

As far as the club is concerned, Brian is in Kenya sorting out some paperwork and will be back before the end of the week.
