Referees treat Lionel Messi differently – Verratti
Paris Saint Germain midfielder, Marco Verrati had lashed at referees for the preferential treatment of Barcelona super-star, Lionel Messi during football matches.
The Italy International, who is reported to be scouted by Barcelona stated that it’s a different rule whenever the five-time World footballer of the year is involved while speaking about the red-card he received against Real Madrid in their last 16 second-leg clash two weeks ago.
He received his second booking for running at the match official after what he perceived as a wrong judgement against his team. The 25-year old admits that he was wrong and he now has to work on his attitude, he emphasized that it is unfair that other players, most especially Messi get away whenever they do such.
“I got it wrong against Real, but it was a red card out of frustration and sometimes referees could be more tolerant,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“It was a bad reaction but I didn’t insult anybody, whereas Messi goes around pointing his finger in the referee’s face and doesn’t even get punished. But anyway, I need to improve.”
As compared to Messi who has only received four yellow cards and no red card this season, Verratti has been cautioned 11 times and sent off twice.
