Wales win “was one of the best performances I've been a part of” – Bale

After Wales’ emphatic victory over Russia on Monday, Gareth Bale has spoken out and said it was one of the best performances he has been apart of and sits alongside what he has achieved with Real Madrid.

On June 20th, Wales beat Russia 3-0 in a win that helped them secure top spot in Group B over England, a memorable and historic night for Welsh football. With Aaron Ramsey, Neil Taylor and Gareth Bale all on the score sheet, it enabled them to take advantage of a disappointing England performance seeing them draw 0-0 with Slovakia.

Bale, now the tournament’s leading goal scorer with three goals, has told The Guardian “it is hard to describe, it was an unbelievable occasion. It is up there with anything I have done. Given the pressure of the game that was one of the best performances I have been a part of.”

Wales showed great character and courage to come back fighting after losing 2-1 to England in Lens last Thursday. They came back in great style.Their slick, precise passing made it a pleasure to watch and Joe Allen, Bale and Ramsey all produced world class performances.

“We spoke after the England game that we needed to be better in keeping the ball, and we did that,
” Bale said. “Obviously that created the space that allowed me, Rambo (Ramsey) and the midfielders on get on the ball more and when you do that you get the chance to do what we do best. It was a great team performance and everything was spot on.”

Bale insists that although Russia were very poor, it was more of a case of how well Wales played, stating “we were just very, very good. We did our homework, we knew what to expect and I thought our gameplan was perfect. It was amazing.”

Wales topped Group B ahead of a disappointed England, who will need to step their game up if they want to get any further into the latter stages of the tournament.
