Arsenal midfielder, Granit Xhaka has stated that his club are the favorite to win today’s EFL Cup Semi-final second leg clash with London rivals, Chelsea. The Swiss midfielder, who was in a confident mood believes that Chelsea is the proper opponent for the Gunners to book their place in the final.
The first leg of the encounter which was played in Stamford Bridge two weeks ago ended in a 0-0 draw and the winner of today’s second leg in Emirates will meet league leaders, Manchester City comes February in the final.
Xhaka, who has not been in a sublime form in recent games joined Arsenal in 2016 and was a member of the Arsenal team that defeated the Blues in the FA Cup final in Wembley in 2017. He was also part when Arsenal saw off Conte’s men again in the Community Shield earlier this season. The 25-year old is however optimistic about getting another chance to play in one of the stadia he truly loves.
“It is always special to play there,” the midfielder said while speaking with the Evening Standard. “I played my first senior game for Switzerland there. In my first year here, we won the FA Cup there.”
“Unfortunately, we can’t do that again this season but our aim now is to win the other two cup competitions we are still in.
“We played well at Chelsea in the first leg and have a big chance to win the return match and reach Wembley. Obviously, the cups are the quickest way to win trophies.”
Manchester City sealed their place in the final last night after edging out Championship side, Bristol City 5-3 on aggregates.
