Egypt have returned to kind in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with a 6- thrashing of Group J rivals Niger at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria on Saturday evening.
The result sees the Pharaohs move to 2nd place on the log on three points, when the Menas drop to fourth on 1 point. The other Group J game concerning leaders Tunisia (three points) and 3rd-placed Swaziland (1 point) will choose place in Mazini on Sunday.
Egypt, in their initial game underneath new manager Javier Aguirre, have been on top from the early minutes and had a penalty inside the initial sixty seconds soon after kick-off, with Mohamed Salah fouled in the box. The Liverpool forward took the kick himself, but was denied by the Niger goalkeeper Kassaly Daouda.
In the fourth minute Ahmed Hegazy just about gave the hosts the lead, sending a header from a corner kick just around the crossbar, when Salah and Marwan Mohsen missed additional very clear probabilities inside the opening period of time.
