News reports coming from Morocco is that Feyenoord midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has turned down an opportunity to represent the Netherlands national team.
The Moroccan Football Federation president, Faouzi Lakjaa has confirmed that Amrabat has chosen to represent the African nation.
Football Oranje website reports that the KNVB had hoped to persuade the midfielder to choose the Dutch national team.
However, it appears that Amrabat will follow in his brother, Nordin’s footsteps and represent the Atlas Lions.
“Amrabat sat with his parents in the stand at the World Championships qualifying match between Morocco and Gabon on Saturday night. He will play for Morocco’s first team,” said Lakjaa.
The 21-year-old was born in the Netherlands and has represented both nations at youth level, but has two caps for the Moroccan first team.
