Chelsea winger Eden Hazard has reserved special praise for Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah ahead of this weekend’s much anticipated English Premier League showdown.

Hazard believes that Salah – a former teammate of his at Stamford Bridge – deserved more time to prove himself with the Blues, having since gone on to star in the Italian Serie A and now at Anfield.

Salah has scored nine goals in his opening 12 top-flight games for the Reds, following his move from Roma in the off-season.

The Egypt international struggled for game time in London before eventually returning to England following successful stints in Florence and Rome.

“He is still my friend,” Hazard is quoted as saying when asked about the 25-year-old. “We are still in contact together. He’s a top, top, top player.

“He did not get his chance at Chelsea but we know, in the team, the quality he has. He is a fantastic striker and this season he has scored a lot of goals.

“He did not get the chance [at Chelsea]. Maybe because of the manager, because of the players, I don’t know. But he is a top player for sure.

“In training he did everything. Even in the games when he was playing, sometimes he scored goals, so we know the quality he has,” Hazard concluded.

Cameroon coach Hugo Broos has heaped praise on the current Chipolopolo squad, saying they will be a force to reckon with in the near future.

Broos’ led his side to a 2-2 draw in Ndola on Saturday as they came from behind twice to secure a point in Group B.

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: JOHN OBI MIKEL – NIGERIA SKIPPER READY FOR ARGENTINA CLASH

“Zambia has made big progression. When I compare the game in Limbi, one year ago and I see how they played the qualification for the World Cup and how they played today against us,” the Belgian said.

“This is a young team with much talent. If they progress more they will become a very good team.”

The reigning African champions finished third in their qualifying group from one win, four draws and one loss – they have failed to qualify for the World Cup.

On the other hand, Zambia recorded two wins, two draws and as many defeats to finish runners up in the qualifiers.

In the group, it was Nigeria’s Super Eagles that qualified for the highly anticipated World Cup next year in Russia.

Despite their 3-1 loss at the hands of Manchester City, Nigeria and Arsenal striker Alex Iwobi has received praise from a former Tottenham Hotspur and England legend.

Ex-Lily Whites striker Les Ferdinand has praised Iwobi as the best player for the Gunners in their loss to City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Ferdinand was in the studio as a guest analyst and the former England international labelled Iwobi as fearless.

Iwobi’s smart turn helped beat two City defenders before his pass to Aaron Ramsey which led to the Wales international laying a pass to Alexandre Lacazette to score Arsenal’s only goal in the game.

”You have to look at the turn from Iwobi which started the move that lead to the goal,” said Ferdinand.

“Clearly showed his how confident he is with the ball at his feet. He was fearless but you can’t say the same about other Arsenal players.”

Iwobi will hope to show his worth this weekend when they meet Algeria in their final 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier and in a friendly against Argentina next week in Russia.

After leading his side to a 1-0 win over Wydad Casablanca on Sunday in their CAF Champions League quarterfinal match, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has hailed the Moroccans.

Mosimane believes the North Africans are a well-coached side, but says he pushed his men to find a gap and score a goal.

The defending African champions netted through substitute Yannick Zakri and will head to the second leg in Casablanca next weekend enjoying the lead.

“You can see this team is well organised and they are well coached. This was not parking the bus. They move properly and we could not get into the spaces in between. But we had to force and put the risk and say ‘let’s push’,” said Mosimane.

“To be honest, it was a totally different game. That’s why I like Champions League because it’s totally different tactics to the PSL.

“We struggled in the first half to break the ice, we struggled to get the rhythm, we struggled to play like Mamelodi Sundowns and you could see that the boys were getting frustrated.

“I think I did not get the tactics right in the first half. I thought the three-man midfield of Oupa (Manyisa), (Hlompho) Kekana and ‘Vila’ (Sibusiso Vilakazi) would help us to dominate the play. It helped us to dominate, but we did not look like scoring.”
